BANGKOK, 19 September 2019 (NNT) - For the government’s Chim Shop Chai domestic travel and spending promotional campaign, under which allowances will be given to eligible people to spend at participating shops, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed the preparedness of the registration process and the addition of 55,000 new shops, allowing the general public to spend this allowance and receive cashback at 135,000 shops, which is more than originally anticipated.

The Minister of Finance Uttama Savanayana has confirmed the preparedness of Chim Shop Chai domestic tourism campaign, which will give an allowance of 1,000 baht per person to the first 10 million people enrolled. The registration will be open online via www.ชิมช้อปใช้.com. The allowance can be used for purchases at participating shops from 27 September to 30 November 2019. This campaign period has been extended from its previous 14-day limit, and eligible purchases now include spa treatments, car rentals and local guides.

"I’d like to point out that this campaign shows that Thai people help one another, as we invite people to travel to places far from their home yet still receive 15 percent cash back from spending, which is the y highlight of this campaign. We, of course, provide a 1,000 baht allowance, which is not much, but 15 percent cash back is the part where Thai people help fellow Thais. This 15 percent cash back has a 4,500 baht cap."

There are so far some 135,000 shops registered to participate in this campaign, including 55,000 new shops, and the existing 80,000 shops currently on the Thung Ngern application system. The Ministry of Finance is positive this availability of shops will be sufficient for the general public’s spending. Shop owners can register to participate until 20 September.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said the campaign will help stimulate the country’s tourism sector in late 2019, raising the number of domestic tourists by 10 percent from last year and achieve 170 million trips, generating 1.1 million baht additional revenue.

Sounds like there will need to be an army of people needed to dish out all this free money to registered retail participants plus travellers real or bogus.

No need foreign tourists anymore, Thai tourists the best and speak Thai and easier to deal with and help one another with cheating the campaign promotion funds.

Really? Let's just hope it's not a case where the participating shops raise prices through the roof, then give some mad discounts, the net result of which is, the shops still earn a healthy margin ABOVE what was the original price prior to the campaign.

Brilliant move, this. At least Thai people don't have to file TM30s.
