Amazing Thailand.

Along with higher labour costs comes inflation,

comes higher cost of living,

comes eventual death of tourism industry.

 

If you holiday in Australia, hiring a car, hotel, restaurant, beers and ciggies..

 

Even aside from airfares, you will get bบgger-all change from 10,000baht per day.

But ask the average Aus worker, and wages havent risen in 20 years.

They are actuallly getting lower due to big business buying off politicians to keep axing penalty rates.

 

Id hate to see Thailand end up like Australia but its getting more like the nanny state every day though.

 

Goverments everywhere are becoming commos.

Australia has a big grudge against Australians living away, in countries like Thailand.

Doing everything it can to steal off, tax and legislate against us expats..

YET they allow several Aus companies (including Telstra) to have call centres in India and "outsource" labour.

It is sometimes interesting to realize that another forum member is actually very young and has little experience of life.

This is someone who has visited Thailand possibly once and spent all his time in the redlight districts. He has no idea of how vast the rest of the country is, and of how many expats live perfectly normal, comfortable lives with no desire to ever visit Pattaya.

This is exactly the same as a guy I once helped hook up to the Internet for the first time in his life. As I left I said "Remember, just type into Google whatever you're interested in".

When I met him the next day I asked "How did you enjoy the Internet?".

"It was awful," he said "full of nothing but porn!"

So, right here, we can tell that this poster young enough that he has never actually had to pay a plumber and, therefore, is under the illusion that they are poor. I'm guessing this guy still lives at home with his parents.

Regarding the reasons why Thai women value western partners, being able to provide is usually only part of it. In general, westerners treat them better. We are also less worried about a women being a divorcee, or a single mother, or older than 24. Thai men will still have sex with those women, but most will not consider marrying them. We westerners are less precious about that stuff.

Westerners also tend to be a little more aware of the world, and mostly have more rounded educations. Universities here are nothing like universities in the west. I would say that westerners leave high school with more reading under belt and a far greater inclination to read than the average Thai graduate. If a Thai women is intelligent, it is actually quite difficult to find a Thai man who is able or willing to have advanced discussions - yes, of course, smart and educated Thai guys exist, but they are in short supply.

As a Thai woman, it is shockingly easy to find yourself "left on the shelf" and feeling betrayed, burnt out by Thai men. Most, by the time they seek a western partner, are clear on what they don't want. Most feel lucky if they have a straightforward, decent westerner who treats them with respect.

Thailand is clearly becoming more expensive but I am certain that, for decades to come, it will remain easier for western men to find partners of higher quality here than in their home countries. That is good for those western men, it is good for the Thai women in question, and it is actually very good for Thailand as a whole.

Remember, anyone who feels it necessary to hang around an expat forum, and repeatedly post about how terrible farangs are, is profoundly disturbed. I do not mean that in a mean-spirited way. We should all have sympathy when someone is working through internal pain, even if they are projecting that pain and self-hatred at us. We should also be patient and remember that it sometimes takes many years for people to come to terms with the world and how they, themselves, interact with it.

Last time I saw a gastroenterologist at UCLA (8 years ago/2011ish), I was handed a bill for $850 (@฿25,000). Nothing special about the visit,  After causing a commotion and spending 1/2 hour in the business office, they lowered it to $350 (@฿10,000)

 

My gastroenterologist in Bangkok (2019)...@฿1,000

I have many many more personal examples at about the same relative price difference.

If it was so easy to become a high income country then other third world countries would be there already, long before Thailand.

Key to succeed is good education.

But as long as 30% of its population are farmers, no way.

High income countries have also a high percentage of foreigners in gainful jobs. The xenophobic morons that run the country will never understand that.

Just give him his few days of fame overseas. In reality no one cares what he says, as people outside LOS actually use their brain to not believe BS like that. The fact is that it will never happen or are they aiming to pay the 20+ staff in restaurants playing with their phones 1000+ baht per day? 

 

The average Thai is just too lazy and brainless. I know lots of smart Thais in BKK but it won‘t ever happen that the whole population will benefit. Look at Europe.. there Are regions in Spain and Italy which remain <deleted> poor for various reasons and it will never change.
