Deputy Commerce Minister Weerasak Wangsuphakijkosol said on Monday (September 30) that his Ministry is aiming to boost four key service industries in 2020 – restaurants, elderly care, property management and beauty salons.

“The service sector has been contributing to the country’s economy significantly with increased usage every year,” he said. “Therefore, the Ministry has assigned the Department of Business Development (DBD) to design measures to promote the four fast-growing service industries in the coming year.”

DBD is to organise seminars and training courses to provide entrepreneurs with business know-how in all dimensions, he added.

“These courses will cover key topics such as business administration, marketing, financial and cost management, e-commerce strategies, as well as techniques to create highest customer satisfaction and ensure repeat customers,” he said.

“Moreover, we are aiming to create a network of service providers to share experiences and business assistance among partners to improve service quality and widen the markets,” he added.

The four businesses were selected because they involve large groups of clients and are becoming popular among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as consumer behaviours evolve with modern society, said the minister.

“Restaurant and beauty salon businesses are easy to start and can find customers in any community,” he said. “Also, as Thailand is moving toward an elder society we will need more elderly care services. Meanwhile, the growing numbers of condominium and apartment projects predict a rising need in property management service.”

DBD’s statistics as of September 2019 reveal that the four service businesses have over 18,000 operators registered with the Ministry of Commerce, with combined registered capital of over Bt126 billion.
