Suttirat Rattanachot, director-general of the Comptroller General’s Department (CGD), said 76,961 shops have registered under the government’s “Eat, Shop, Spend” scheme and that registrations will be kept open until October 15.

“At least 80,000 shops should have registered by the time the registration closes,” she added.

According to Suttirat, customers who have registered will be granted Bt1,000 through the “Pao Tang” application, which they can spend at participating shops before November 30. This amount is called “G-Wallet 1”.

“Customers who top up their Pao Tang account to spend at said shops will receive a 15-per-cent cashback on their total expenditure [limited to a maximum of Bt4,500 per person],” she said. “This cashback will be transferred to ‘G-Wallet 2’ and there is no deadline for spending. Shop owners, meanwhile, can receive both kinds of money via an application called ‘Tung Ngern’.

“Every day at midnight, Krungthai Bank will calculate all the money spent via G-Wallet 1 and transfer the sum to shop owners’ account between 5pm and 9pm on the next business day,” she said. “As for the weekend, the transfers will be made on the Monday and will include sales of both Saturdays and Sundays.

“Spending via G-Wallet 2 will be calculated at 11.30pm daily and the amount will be transferred to shop owners’ account between midnight and 5am of the following day,” Suttirat added. “The daily sales of shops can be tracked through the Tung Ngern application, and shop owners can rest assured they will get the money they have earned through this scheme.

“However, if the CGD finds any suspicious behaviour, such as misuse of funds or the violation of any conditions, then the transfer will be stopped until the matter is clarified,” the director-general added.

Many registered Pao Tang in Nakhon Pathum misused the benefits. They give 200 baht for the shop owner and the shop owner return back 800 baht. The province stop the Pao Tang project.

Also the Pao Tang apps can't use many times for the couple days in certain areas. Many of them forced to pay their own money.

Another case, the elder woman tried to register Pao Tang, but failed because someone use her ID to register the Pao Tang. Call centre is unreachable and the woman decided to lodged the police report.

For registered Pao Tang for Bangkok use, they can use only 10 TESCO Lotus branches and only one counter for each branch. When the system errors, the TESCO and KTB blaming each others.

The registered Pao Tang were so happy, till last 2 days ... the government announced that they already approved the contribution for Social Security. Then the people were not very happy and complaining it.

They should monitor what has been bought in these purchases, they - not us  - would be surprised that very little went on essentials

Essentials is a somewhat ambiguous term, depending solely on your personal point of view and needs.

My missus for example; couldn't really believe she had gone into the draw, gotten money and she could go spend it from an app she downloaded over the internet......just like real money!

Long story short; we just got back from the market with bht. 200 of sai.ooa, muu tort etc. Was it essential?

Probably not, looking in the fridge; but a mate's turning up for beers this arvo, so well done her!
