March 23, 200719 yr I'm not married to my girlfriend but she is having a baby. I don't work but have assets and am too young for retirement. I may end up doing some work this year or next and would need to acquire a permit I know. What I am asking is whether I can get a visa to stay here on the basis of parenthood. If so, what hoops do I have to jump through. I assume that with marriage, I can get a yearly visa but do I still need to go to the border every 90 days ? Any help appreciated.
March 23, 200719 yr If your are the unmarried father of a Thai national and at least 50 years old, you can get annual extensions of stay without having to show evidence of income or money in the bank, but you need of lot of documents. So far, I have not seen any report of somebody doing this alone. Some people got it with the help of Sunbelt (sponsor of this forum) If you get married, you can get annual extension by showing evidence of family income of minimum 40k Baht per month, some documents, and your wife. This can be your income (in Thailand or abroad), your wife’s income (in Thailand, with income tax paid on it), or a combination of both. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
March 23, 200719 yr Author If I was 50 I'd just do the retirement visa. The problem is that I am some years off that figure.
March 24, 200719 yr You can likely obtain a non immigrant multi entry O visa from a home country consulate on the basis of either marriage or birth certificates. That would allow 90 day stays with border runs and a new visa required every 14/15 months (depending on how close you time the border runs).
April 2, 200719 yr I've got two questions: I am unmarried, three children. What are my chances of getting a non imm. O, multi, in Sweden? A Swedish friend of mine said that there is no fee for this visa. But the consulate's web site is quoting a fee the equivalent of 5000 Baht. (Someone on this board also mentioned that he got a visa without paying anything, but I think he didn't mention his nationality.) So, is there any official web site showing the visa fees for different nationalities? Regards, Bertil
April 3, 200719 yr You will have to ask your Consulate as it is up to them. The fee is about 5,000 baht regardless of your nationality and is set by the Consulate to the local exchange rate.
April 3, 200719 yr But how do you explain this: ...Went back to the embassy the day after at 2 o'clock. Waited 5-10 min in line to collect my passport. No fee for the visa. So everything went very smooth and quick. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...02900&st=15post #29 and I thought there was a fee too, but surprisingly the lady did not ask for a fee, that's for sure. I didn't ask more about it eather, free is ok for me. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...02900&st=45 post #48 and as I said earlier, a friend of mine confirmed it is gratis.
April 3, 200719 yr To Torrenova, I was in an identical situation to several months ago. I was in Australia, with my Thai GF, she was (is) pregnant. I am 36 years old. We wanted to relocate to Thailand for 1 year to have the baby, get married etc. Went to Thai Consulate in Brisbane, with prooof of income (40,000 + THB per month) and declared our intention as listed above, and got Non Imm "O" for 12 months. I do need to leave Thailand every 90 days though. Hope this is of some help. Cheers
April 4, 200719 yr The question remains... Is there any official web site showing the (Thai) visa fees for different nationalities? I'm asking this since there is no fee for the non imm O visas in Singapore for at least two nationalities: Swedes and Norwegians. But the Swedish consulate in Gothenburg, Sweden, is quoting fees on their web page.
April 4, 200719 yr Did you read my post #6? The fee is set by the Consulate for local currency and it is not dependent on your passport country (nationality).
April 8, 200719 yr Author I have a business visa now but want to know whether the baby would allow me to apply for a stay of execution here ?
April 9, 200719 yr Unless you are over age 50 the baby, with your name as father, will only give you the ability to obtain a non immigrant visa from a Consulate - it would not be a reason for extension of stay.
