Temperamental Trump blows his top over impeachment inquiry

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump is mad as hell. Easily rankled when Democrats accuse him of wrongdoing, Trump boiled over on Wednesday at the impeachment inquiry they are pursuing over his July 25 phone call to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Democrats want to prove he sought personal political gain by appealing to Zelenskiy to investigate Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden.

Trump sees the impeachment probe as a harassing follow-up to the Russia investigation that failed to knock him out of office and is frustrated that much of the U.S. news media do not cover what he views as Democratic hypocrisy.

From hard-boiled tweets to lashing remarks to reporters in the Oval Office and later in the East Room, Trump's anger built throughout the day.

"The Do Nothing Democrats should be focussed on building up our Country, not wasting everyone’s time and energy on BULLSHIT, which is what they have been doing ever since I got overwhelmingly elected in 2016," he said in a tweet.

He was just clearing his throat.

In the Oval Office, Trump called U.S. Representative Adam Schiff, the Democrat whose House Intelligence Committee is leading the probe, "shifty Schiff."

Trump said Schiff would not be able to carry the jockstrap of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, calling it a "blank strap" out of deference to his sense of Oval Office decorum.

"All they want to do is try and win the election in 2020, so they come up with this impeachment nonsense!" Trump said of the Democrats.

Democrats have accused Trump of pressuring a vulnerable U.S. ally to meddle in the 2020 election for his own political benefit.

"It's hard to imagine a more corrupt course of conduct," Schiff said on Wednesday.

An innocent bystander to the White House events was visiting Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, who hosted Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin for a summit in Helsinki in July 2018.

A Finnish reporter looking to change the subject told Trump that "Finland is the happiest country in the world," to which the president replied: "Finland is a happy country."

"Yeah, for sure," Niinisto agreed amiably.

After the two leaders had a lunch of Dover sole in the Cabinet Room, the stage was set for a joint news conference in the East Room.

It started out evenly. Trump expressed condolences for a stabbing attack in Finland, and Niinisto talked about European security and melting Arctic sea ice.

But when the questions turned to impeachment, Trump's stormy mood gathered force.

His voice rising with anger, Trump lashed https://reut.rs/2oAAIP0 out at Reuters reporter Jeff Mason, who asked what he had wanted Zelenskiy to do when Trump brought up the business ties to Ukraine of Biden's son Hunter.

"It's a whole hoax, and you know who's playing into the hoax? People like you and the fake news media that we have in this country," he retorted. He told the reporter not to be “rude” and repeatedly evaded the question.

The news conference was supposed to include two questions from the American side and two from the Finnish side. But after the third questioner, Trump had had enough, ending the event and walking off stage.

Trump’s address to the press was an insight into the ramblings of a disturbed mind.   His foul language tweets even more so.   He’s visibly falling apart.

I don't blame Trump. He is what he is, a disturbed mind with delusions of grandeur.

I blame the fools who voted him in, who believed his rubbish despite massive evidence it was all a sham. And I blame the old men of the Republican party who support him for personal gain, despite what he is doing to stuff up the US, the world economy, international relationships and everything else he touches.

They allow a vindictive racist to overturn everything achieved by Obama because he once made fun of him at a press function. He has even set in motion a potential world war by overturning a treaty his predecessor signed off on.

The real sickos are sitting in the senate and behind the scenes in the party room.

I'm SO glad we don't have a female president who would get all bitchy and lose her cool under pressure.

No doubt, this small, thin skinned man is melting down. He cannot handle all of this heat. He is coming unglued. Losing the plot. Losing his mind. I think when he was elected, he assumed we would behave with a substantial degree of fealty, and defer to his whims. But, then he made the biggest mistake his life. He drew first blood, and started a war on the media. A monumental error. It has backfired in a way he could not imagine. He is now the most mocked man in the world. For good reason. He is a criminal, a fool, and a man who just does not know when to keep his mouth shut, when to leave his device alone, and when to act to preserve what is left of his sorry administration. He is going down. There is no doubt about that. Whether it is impeachment, resignation, or just a loss of the next election, he is going down. And chances are, when he leaves the protection of the very white house, he will be looking at the wrath of the SDNY, who have been pursuing him for 35 years. They now have all the dirt they need to put him away. Don Donald is facing the end. And it is quite possible that some of the other criminals in his administration, like Barr and Pompeo may go down with him. Becoming president was the second biggest mistake of his lifetime, after declaring war on the media.

Guys like McConnell, Graham and his top defenders are not going to have much of a career, nor much credibility when this house of cards come tumbling down. And it will. Just give this some time.

“If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, pound the table and yell like hell”

― Carl Sandburg

Trump is doing an excellent job at crating chaos. He wants the political waters to be as murky as they can be. All he needs is to have enough of the general population confused or frustrated that they become apathetic to the whole sordid mess. If the general population cease to care, their representatives in the Senate will stop caring too.

Trump is a nut but he is a cunning nut and he has a lot of street smart cunning people with him. He is looking to get to a point where any vote in a general election can be argued invalid due to corruption. He wants to stay in power via executive orders until people give up. He then will have created in effect a dictatorship.

US constitution makers did not foresee the people voting in such a person and the constitution has very little retort to people who have no respect for the rules others must play by.

Finally we get the Col. Jessup/Capt. Queeg moment.

(And his tweets today indicate that the end is near.)

It's looking more and more like he will NOT be impeached.

He will resign BEFORE impeachment.

The VP appears to be moving from simmer to full on boil.

That leaves who, exactly as President? Hmmm.

I don't believe he will resign because he will be walking into a legal minefield.  As soon as he does not have the generally accepted safety net that a president will not face criminal prosecution in court, he will be in legal jeopardy from a multitude of sources.

The only way he would willingly resign is to have a pardon of all his past indiscretions and I'm not sure the Dems are willing to give him that get out of jail card. He has fractured so much of the government framework in less than a term. He has opened the door for every other self serving fool in future to do more and more damage.

Sorry for not laying out the steps...

He will be granted immunity/pardon(s) first, on the condition he resigns.

Trump could well end up being just as popular as Orban and Duterte and if he does he must be doing something right.

If liberals hate them yet the common people keep voting them in then their policies can't be too far wrong.

He just needs to start executing in the streets people accused of crimes before they get their day in court.

He could throw them in the "Moot" (that's how he spelled "moat" in his tweet today) and let the alligators (only the best alligators, "honey, get me quote on those 'gators") have at them. If they make it out of that, order CPB to shoot them in the legs to slow them down?

They are not run of the mill 'crimes' though are they?

If dealers are going to push their drugs on children to get them addicted like happens in the PI then they now know what the consequences are likely to be.

Over the years I've known parents who've lost their children to heroin. Drug taking is not always just a matter of having a joint out in the garden at a party.

It often eventually results in a wasteful unnecessary death just to put a bit of money in the pockets of vultures.

If your child had been a victim of these vermin perhaps you'd wish death upon them as well otherwise these drug dealers get off unscathed while you're watching earth being shoveled on to your son or daughter's coffin. I've been to one of these funerals.

Trump probably understands this just like Duterte does and has a similar degree of sympathy for those who commit these 'crimes'.

What a pathetic little man (and I use this term in the loosest possible sense!)!

And I have known parents who have lost children in car collisions. Should the driver of fatal collisions be shot without trail at the scene fo the accident, too?

Who determines guilt? What If an influential person accused you in the public arena or otherwise gave falsified information that you were peddling drugs. Would you be willing to accept a bullet in the head with no trial or other opportunity to plead your case?

Now tell me honestly.

First time I've seen Carl Sandburg credited on this one. Yes, I did find that one page. And yes, it does "sound" a bit like something he might have written/spoken.

No influential person is ever gonna accuse me of peddling drugs so it's irrelevant.

But if someone gave my child drugs that killed him I'd want that person killed. So might you if it were your child.

What one page? Please don't speak in riddles. If you want to say something, please be clear in your communication. I can only infer that you disagree with my acknowledgement or the quote itself and that you can only find one internet web page on it. And I'm happy for that, but you have not offered up much hard fact to counter.

If you are implying there is only one web page that backs my quote, I disagree. I have the quote in hardcopy - where I first heard it and also a quick look on the net today returned several responses. This is the page I used for quick reference. https://www.pli.edu/programs/conflict-resolution-for-lawyers

No matter who the author, what the quote implies is the most important part of my post. Discussing who it shoudl really be attributed it semantics under these circumstances.

You can't possibly know that, especially if you were in the Phillipines right now. It may be your neighbour takes a disliking to you and they have a family member in the police force.

So again, would you be willing to accept a bullet in the head for something you have not done without an option to prove your innocence? It is either a yes or a no answer. Anything else is a deflection.
