Ambulance Driver Killed in Korat Crash
Picture from responders. An ambulance driver from Pak Thong Chai Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima was tragically killed when his vehicle lost control and collided with a utility pole on 11 January. The incident occurred on Highway 290 near Ban Nong Phuang Yai in the Chaimongkol sub-district. Emergency responders from the Hook 31 Rescue Unit were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report at 13:55. Upon arrival, they discovered the ambulance overturned on its side and heavily damaged, with the utility pole broken and the driver trapped inside. The victim, identified as Mr Nontawat Donsaranoy, was found unresponsive at the wheel. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and had been on his way back to Pak Thong Chai Hospital after collecting blood supplies from the Region 5 Blood Service in Nong Bua Sala, Nakhon Ratchasima. Rescue workers, many of whom were shocked to discover it was their former colleague, waited for officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority to cut power to the damaged pole before safely extricating the body. According to initial investigations by officers from Pho Klang Police Station, the ambulance appeared to have been travelling at high speed when the driver lost control and crashed into the pole. The deceased’s body was transported to Pak Thong Chai Hospital, where further arrangements will be made. -- 2025-01-13 -
