Agree that speculation, aka hot money inflows that pumps up the Baht.  But hot money comes from China, and it usually comes with kickbacks.  And that’s the incentive.

The string pullers in the Thai economy are a real worry. That they are military people makes the prospects even worse.

 

Restrict ?? Article says they are going to relax capital outflow rules. Making it easier for investors to move their money out of Thailand. BoT will set the e/r's etc.
