Phuket marks last day of Vegetarian Festival

PHUKET:-- The main festivities of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival will conclude tonight with devotees from at least 30 shrines across the island leading street processions through the heart of Phuket Town and terminating at Saphan Hin tonight (Oct 7).

Cabinet okays hiring of new teachers, merging small schools

The Cabinet on Monday (October 7) approved a proposal to recruit 2,808 teachers to replace those have to retired to solve the problem of a shortage of teachers in small schools nationwide, Ratchada Thanadirek, deputy government spokesperson said.

Thailand approves bigger 2020 budget, debates start next week

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's cabinet on Monday approved a slightly higher budget of 3.2 trillion baht ($105.12 billion) for the 2020 fiscal year to bolster Southeast Asia's second-largest economy, which is growing at its weakest pace in nearly five years.

Bodies of 13 women found after migrant boat sinks in Mediterranean

LAMPEDUSA, Italy (Reuters) - Italian coastguards recovered the bodies of 13 women who died after a crowded migrant boat capsized in heavy weather as rescue boats approached it off the coast of Lampedusa, an island south of Sicily, local authorities said on Monday.

LONDON (Reuters) - British retailers endured their worst September since at least the mid-1990s as people instead spent money on entertainment, according to surveys that painted a muted picture of household demand ahead of Brexit.
