Not doubting the story, but why would there be a British Embassy in London.

Imagine if the amount of free time a handful of posters have proven they have was used to do something positive for Thailand!

Let me just clarify this. The account is true and Mr Syduan only posted it.......The incident has now been taken up as a legal case of defamation against Thai immigration.......Something you wouldn't attempt unless you have the evidence.......

Can you explain what syduan means in Thai?

Not easy to say because it isn’t Thai, but the closest sound I can find is ไส้เดือน earthworm.

Why would you think that it is appropriate to enter Thailand on a Tourist Visa when your Passport clearly shows you are not a Tourist?

Ha ha, definition of tourist ?  One who isn't employed within the country but spends his time in leisure ........??    Plus where's the passport ?

This girl was detained on a flyover she didn't even want to enter Thailand,.... It's not us they are against everyone. Korean/Japanese forums are also full with dismissals and detained people...

If you live in Thailand why not a proper visa, retirement or even the elite.

Elite?????? We are not all that rich enough to pay out all that money and get very little in return.

What is a proper visa for a tourist?

He says he lives here so it is not the proper visa for him.

No further comment from the OP, after that lengthy post I am surprised he is not showing more interest.

I know personally that the OP is extremely interested and he's very appreciative of the forums input, including the fruit cakes, riteous, and down right arrogant pratts.  Extremely cheap proof reading exercise.......

Yes of course. Available to anyone over the age of 50. He could have avoided all his problems.

But since OP never responded I am beginning to think this was a troll post.

Let me assure you this is not a troll post......

That's it right there. You were entering on a tourist visa instead of a visa suitable for your circumstances. The days you could live in LOS on a TV long gone.

Would have been better to go to Singapore to activate the Malaysian permit.

Let's face it- LOS does not want people on TVs living in the country. TVs are for people visiting and leaving to go home.

It's been that way for a few years now.

12.9 is for not having 20K. They denied him under 12.2 no appropriate means of living in thailand (this is no necessarily about money) and 12.3 because they suspect him of working in Thailand since he has a lot of previous work permit.

The immigration officers avoid actually looking at any proof of having 20 k baht (or equivalent) because if they don't see it, it simply doesn't exist, ie, it never existed and 12.2 is validated. If they see the money, they have to acknowledge it and 12.2 is invalidated. It's a belt and braces move since they can't easily prove 12.3.

As for the OP, he claims to have lived in Thailand for 20 years while working legally both locally and internationally. As his experience at Pedang Besar indicates, his immigration history, like that of pretty much every other foreigner with a machine readable passport these days, is now available on any immigration officers computer at any point of arrival.

Despite still working professionally, the OP is more than qualified by age to get a Non-O visa based on retirement in Thailand and has been for maybe 3 years already. Despite being aware that SETV and METV are increasingly no longer kosher for those with clear evidence that they are living in Thailand, "a country that I've lived in more than half of my life," the OP kept traveling on those. The OP should also have been well aware that Thai immigration advice isn't always in your best interest as the new passport ruse has been well and truly sidelined by the aforementioned enabling and use of their Thai immigration history at points of arrival.

As well as simply refusing to sign the papers; IMHO the only good thing that the OP did, the OP would have been better off filing an appeal rather than stroking his ego in a stinking airport cell for an alleged 5 days.

It is a troll who posted, though. Why would he say in one post he is 53 and in another one a few years ago 58?

Alzheimer's. Try it.

Taking the story at face value, it is as the title says, a warning to those concerned that living in Thailand without permission is difficult and likely to become more so.

These stories are meat and drink to the forum so does it matter if Syduang is a troll?

I agree, if this story was fully genuine and he had done no wrong, he shouldn't be concerned but it does seem that there are some holes in the story.

It should be criminal for them to refuse you entry on not having sufficient funds when you have 20k in your wallet and a Thai bank book with you. Why don't they have another reason for refusal such as "person attempted to enter on incorrect visa type", rather than using the same old insufficient funds as a catch all to deny anyone?

Check the 7th of June, the date of the incident.......

How do you know that this has been taken up as a legal case of defamation?

In cases of emergency only, you can call the British Embassy in Bangkok at any time. During "out of office" hours your call will be automatically transferred (at no additional cost) to the "Help desk" at the Foreign Office in London. The Bangkok number is :- 023058333.

Who's bank book is this and if not yours why are you posting it and not the OP?

Anyway it proves nothing as there is no name on it.

It gets more and more fishy.

Yes, but I knew mine.

At your issuing countries passport office(s) in the issuing country or at that countries overseas embassy or maybe a consulate in some countries.

A country cannot have it's own embassy in it's own country.

Der, it's a current case not to be tried and judged on TV but in a court of law.  No names, hence the poster is not the individual concerned. It's just been posted here as a tester.......it's working....

If you look at the book you'll see the 7th was the incarceration date and the 11th was the release.......it's kosher........

For the OP:

1. Great post - rational, informative.

2. Imm Officers you dealt with: unfortunately indicative of a broader malaise. Too late now but did you manage to get their names? I find that asking/looking for their names can help. These people frequently suffer from inferiority complexes - hence the overreaction.

3. Strongly suggest that you give this story to larger media outlets than Thai Visa - especially from your home country, if only as a warning of just how badly things can go wrong...
