Two Thai national parks were designated ASEAN Heritage Parks at a ministerial meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia, this week attended by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa.

Chao Mai Beach in the Li Bong Island Non-Hunting Area in Trang becomes the 45th ASEAN Heritage Park and Mue Ko Angthong National Park the 46th.

They are only the fifth and sixth Thai national parks to be so designated.

Mue Ko Angthong in Surat Thani has 42 islands with extensive natural diversity, from coral reefs and the rare orchid species Ang Thong Lady Slipper (Paphiopedilumniveum) to Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, Finless porpoises, Bryde’s whales and green turtles.
