there are VIP bus from BKK to Phnom phen; 11 hours, it's very long !

do you recommand a compagny ? or stop in Aranyprathet one night and go to Phnom phen ?

( bus or mini van ) ?; an hotel in Phnom phen ( aroune 1200 Bahts ) , ; I would like to go to Angkor Want ; I guess it's worth a visit

Train goes from BKK to the Cambodian border. Bus to Siem Reap from there about 2 hours

The bus is also a piece of pooh, almost entirely white foreigners and twice the price of the normal bus.

Do yourself a favour and get a Thai bus from Morchit to Aranyaprathet walk over the border to Poipet and catch a minivan to Siem Reap.

 

The VIP tourist bus is a completely rip off, apart from being the worst bus I've ever travelled on.

 

As for Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, all the options are pretty dire.

The bus are nasty, the roads are bad, the minivans pack twice as many tourists as they should all with huge backpacks on their laps. 

 

Some fairly nice places to stay in Siem Reap for $10-$12/night, Phnom Penh a little more expensive at around $15-$20/night. SR is more a young backpacker party town, PP is more an elderly (s)expat destination.

Last question : you speak of $, every thing has to be paid in $ ( I suppose not in the market ) ?

in Cambodia the currency is USD, the only local money you will every see is small change, 25c will be a 1000 Riel note.

Not a bad idea then you get an early start to cross the border before the crowds. This hotel is right on the border near the train station. If you are going by bus try to get one going to the border/Rongkleu market, not just to Aran bus station which is a fair distance away.

zero reason to stay in Aranyprathet,( especially if you live 100 kms from there) shared taxi from border to SR is only 2 1/2 hours

From SR- PP can take the boat in 6 hours or bus in 5+ depending on road conditions.

More BS; PP is the capital of the country and with 8+ malls, loads of 5 star hotels and very nice restaurants its hardly just an expat destination...

For anyone thinking of travelling from BKK to Siem Reap by bus I fully recommend Travel Mart. I did it yesterday and the staff were terrific, they helped with the border crossing and it was a very comfortable journey.

Helped hat carry your bags?  Not needed this is an easy unassisted trip with good posts about how to do it.  Additionally if going through poipet you can do an online visa for camboidia and just show it at the border.

Cambodian Tourist VISA costs $30, although sometimes the corrupt border officials demand a 100bht tip.

Cost me £15 when I booked through 12go and I had the e-visa already. They did offer to help people with it for 7 USD but it's not necessary as it's so easy. However, they directed passengers on where to go at the border, which for a first timer like me made the process a lot less stressful. In and out of the border crossing within 30-45 minutes. 

 

The drop off point in Siem Reap is just a short 10 minute walk from Pub Street.
