Thai media reported that a giant air purifier had been set up outside the Central World mall in downtown Bangkok.

The huge device has been put there by a Bangkok university to help with the city's air pollution problem caused by PM 2.5 particles.

Dr Surat Bualert of Kasetsart University's environmental science department explained it was essentially a giant filter.

In a video he explained about the device's specifications including its motor and filter.

Great news, now if they can make just 2 more - one for North Thailand and one for South Thailand - we'll all be well again  ????

  • Doing some rough air volume calculations, I reckon they only need 3,678,456.01 more of these fine contraptions to make absolutely no difference to the air quality in Bangers!! Somebody's having a

Saddly this is the only way to clean up the air ,as thais refuse to respect the environment, and obey laws and enforce standards...unless its a one day war, or a grandstanding photo opportunity

I wonder what they do when the filter is full of clap. I used to ,years ago with a car air filter  bang it on the curb then blow it out with an air line.

Imagine 1 more up here on the hospital roof in Jan. working flat out . It would be like a straw in a bucket of drink , more comes along to replace what is sucked in .

  1. Look at the lid on the chimney, i bet the filtered air goes straight into this machine again...they should let it spread the clean air over the square.....and buy new city buses.

Perhaps they could wash it in the river.

I think it will work very well.

The air within 3 meters around it will be fine

- of course only if they clean the filter every day

Someone should test this system. Put one of those smoking flares near it and look how good it will work. Will it work in 1m distance? Or maybe up to 3m? Somehow my expectations are very limited but I would love to see that test.

Name of the university would be helpful to parents who pay tuition fees for their kids...

Has it broken yet?

Could someone bring their SNDWAY and get some reading? A reading from inside the mall would be good too.

This may be the most insulting report I've ever seen, and there have been many.

Looks like some silly modern art Hawaiian dancer to me

Doctor of environmental science, no less. The collective area of the world's forests isn't enough to clean the pollution us humans are churning out. They expect this little contraption to help?

Boat propellers to disperse giant floods, and now this. They really just don't get how things work, do they?

More like 200,000 of them nation wide are needed.

<deleted> !!! How much carbon fuel does it take to run that piece of sh.t?!!

It seems that you infest the air just to give someone the chance to make money with useless things!
Reducing the discharges of vehicles and factories is the only solution!

Where is the clown sitting on top!!

I'll give it two weeks before it breaks due to no maintenance.

A filter.....then it needs maintenance? How will that work here?
