Earthquake Rocks Bangkok: Building Collapses with 40 people inside
Reports continued to emerge about people leaving buildings, including at least two hospitals, after feeling a tremor this morning. No evacuation orders were given at Taksin Hospital or Police General Hospital, but some medical staff and patients left anyway. They were later told to go back inside. The Thai Meteorological Department said there was no earthquake in Thailand, and aftershocks from Myanmar have not affected Thailand. The PM's Press Office said the cracks reported at Chaeng Watthana Government Complex were already there before. They also stated that each organization decides whether to evacuate, but any such decision should be clearly communicated and based on verified information from official sources. https://x.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1906595684142502028 The PM has treated herself to a new magic wand: Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra reassured investors about the inspections of buildings and recovery efforts following Friday's earthquake. "I will work tirelessly to resolve the situation and restore normalcy," she added at a Board of Investment seminar. https://x.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1906590422446821442 -

Quake Jolts Thai Tourism: Rising Concerns Over Safety
Half-constructed buildings collapsing worries me less than completed buildings with cracks and bulges all over the place. How long will it take to seriously assess the structures? How many qualified people will it take and do they even have them? As pretty as the city looked, I'm convinced those bright buildings weren't constructed to 7.7 standards like in Taipei or Tokyo. Noone ever expected something like that, especially at the brown envelope contracting stage. Apparently though the Sagaing fault is expected to shift dramatically every 30-50 years, with a few smaller shocks between. The last major shift was 1956 so a big one's been expected (by geologists) for a while. Wonder how LA will stand up when the San Andreas fault finally gives. -

Earthquake Panic Empties Andaman Coast: Tourist Numbers Plunge
I'm just walking on the beach road with surfboard under my arm, malevolent glint in my eye and cheerily shouting " Surf's up" to any passing families 🌊. That'll make sure I get a table without queuing at my favourite restaurant later! 😜 -

Who's still thinking of buying a high rise condo after the earthquake?
Why on earth would you think condo buyers have a choice between buying a property and living amongst poor people, thievery and meth heads??
