That's a load off. The economy of Thailand has been saved again by the statistics of the Ministry of Tourism and TAT.

Nothing more than fools fooling themselves.

On Walking Street last night many Chinese tours. Even one Muslim tour. Nary a Farang face.

I reckon at least 96.7% of those statistics are made up.

All the entry stats are available on the Immigration website. They come directly from the entries entered into the database every time someone passes through passport control. TAT use these numbers.

So what statistics do you have to contradict the official figures?

You are quite right JW, above is verbatim from the Gov!

Their FACE is relentless.

Full marks for bravery.

Easy to get the figures up, just subsidize low cost flights from DMK to outside Thailand. Every one that comes in from swampy and continues from DMK is counted as a "tourist". Does sod all for revenue but hey, it's the headcount that matters.

I reckon you understand their reasons for hoping that these stats are wrong.  Here's a gross oversimplification of their simple thinking:

Weak tourism stats = weak economy = weaker Baht around the corner (yay!)

Strong tourism stats = strong economy = strong Baht (boo!)

Yes, from here: https://www.immigration.go.th/immigration_stats . They filter out the entry classes to TR and others.

The revenue per head - unknown source but I've previously guessed the only place where they know the nationality is at King Power. Multiply by heads. Obviously, nada to do with actual expenditure, but hey, stats.

Correct. You can download reports that breakdown all visa types/classes.

I agree. All countries quote revenue based on the numbers of visitors, but I've no idea how they determine the revenue per head.

Really? How about the content of the OP?  Now you know about China, Malaysia, Laos, India, South Korea and Japan....

"The highest numbers of visitors were from China, making up 8,518,031 people, up 1.71 per cent, and generating revenue of Bt426.88 billion. "We know the farangs are not coming as much.  we know.  done".

The OP didn't dispute that, it said those figures were down around (a massive!) 2%.

"the rest....well, we guess, but we have no idea".

Well, in the absence of any other statistics that are not imagined in Thaivisa posters' minds and then ranted out here, now you do have an idea.

Obviously just uninformed guesswork by you, so, hey, "nada" to do with actual stats.

but if the hotels are all just half full, where are all these tourists staying?

Clearly fake news, at least readers of TVF know that they send most Tourists back home, before they can enter the LOS.

Yes, correct. Tourism up again. Good news for Thailand, people around world love come thailand, the thai smile, thai food, good weather, shopping, tour,  love it.

Up,up,up!

But, lot of TVF members disagree. They have someone at the airport count. They know, sure.

They never give there number. But down, down, down.

Why "must I know that", did I say that I knew?   Could I guess if I wanted to just like you did?   You're the one who seemed to be suggesting that your guesswork had some credibility.

Yes, six confirmed cases, or thereabouts, this year, so far!
