rooster59
Will the government’s domestic travel measures persuade travelers to pack their bags? While the other economic engines are losing steam, the government hopes to use the tourism sector to boost the country’s economic growth. Recently, the government announced additional measures to promote hospitality business which is the top-earning service sector. The measures include the “Visit Thailand with Bt100” and “Shocking Price Weekday Travel”. The government hopes that, together with the Bt1,000 cash handout program, these measures will encourage people to spend and travel in the final quarter of the year. Popular Post Lungstib
Here in my far north village shops open and shut with regularity. The simple reason being the locals have just enough money to eat, dress, educate the kids and buy the odd bottle of alcohol to numb the pain. They just dont have enough money to buy for fun or even pay Tesco or 7-11 prices. No way they are packing any bags or seeing the sand. Not enough citizens have the money to make this work.

Popular Post Scot123
These people are mad. They just can't get their heads around how bizarre and stupid their rescue policies are. In what universe do you book your holiday because you are given £2.75 or a Thai booking a weekend away for 1,000baht more likely nip to the next province pay for your fuel and buy a bottle of whisky from tesco. If your a shopper why would you go to Thailand to buy something that is more expensive than in your home country and I think we are probable able to include escorts in that now too. Orton Rd
We live 100 meter from the next province, nobody is going anywhere. Even people working in Korea and the well off got their 1000k baht, seems an irresponsible give away.
Popular Post Cadbury
These idiots have openly declared their preference for Thai tourists rather than foreign tourists. The free 1000 baht "eat, drink, get drunk, spend at the local supermarket campaign" will certainly rope in the locals. They can pick up the free money just by scamming the system and sitting at home sitting on the sofa watching TV. Stuff you foreigners, except Chinese and rich Indians. We love you; come and see our temples and we will release you from the evil spirits.......for a price. Somewhere between 10,000 to 100,000 baht. We Thais are reasonable people, you get the freedom and security you pay for. 4
exparte
I wonder who is taking the bait on this "economic Stimulus" program? Wife tells me that no one she knows is interested in it. The only hotels that accept the 1,00 baht are 3,000 baht/night hotels.

They shut because any profit is instantly spent and then no rent money for next month. Villagers are hopeless and if not for their daughters in soi 6 they would all starve Nonesense! Untrue. And slanderous. As some of the villages are are children and clearly many villagers are not adults they do not have daughters or sons...working anywhere. This comment is just Thai bashing and a sanctimonious dog whistle. Nasty.

Yet most cannot afford this luxury. And in addition, credit cards are maxed out; plus the ineffective legal process for debt recovery means there are no private lenders either. Few have money. In a democracy, the way out would be to change the government. In a non-democracy, or exhausted democracy (democracies these days are the whole world over exhausted unfortunately), the disaffected have tendency to periodic uprising.
