Nipon Bunyamanee (Centre)

Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Bunyamanee has urged related authorities to step up measures to reduce road accidents and promote road safety.

He made the remarks while presiding over a seminar on road safety in Khon Kaen province on Friday (October 25).

He said the number of Thai people killed in road accidents was more than 22,000 a year. What is more alarming is the total number of people killed in road accidents over the past 15 years is 400,000.

The ministry will promote a campaign on driving safety in all tambon, which will be implemented by the existing local road safety centres.

Thank god for airbags in cars. Needless to say it’s motor bike riders that are by far the biggest contributors to the death toll They need to wear body armour not just a helmet. What happened to the ban on pickup trucks carrying loads of people in the back?

A great idea forgotten. What a pity

roads re-designed taking out u turns would help as well.

Thais think that because little kids learn to walk all by themselves that 13 year olds learn to drive the same way. The numbers tell us the real story.

My girlfriend got her Lic. in 5 days at a driving school most of that time was on the computer and in the classroom crazy.

Being photographed in ill fitting, poorly designed, inefficient helmets, makes them look bigger bozos, than they already look.

They could begin by ensuring that police, know the roads rules, get out on the road, and begin to enforce the laws. Install red light and speed camera. Enforce use of indicators for turning and changing lanes.

Simple steps would be a start. and do it across Thailand in all provinces

This looks like a "special" school outing.

Seriously, could you even make the photo look more "special".

And "related authorities". S...s...s...say it Junior. Police...you mean Police.

They just look like the 3 wise monkeys.:cheesy:????️‍♀️:cheesy:

Maybe that was the minister I was  following this  morning at 1  am convoy of 3  with police patrol car at the front.....speed 140kph from Hua Hin to Bangkok all the way except  by the bumpy roadworks on approach to  BKK..all driving way too  close to each other.

Zero police enforcement of road rules = the keep on dying.

Let them die. By the 10s of 1000s. Eventually, when enough of them die, they will actually do something about it.

This sums it up perfectly. Blah blah blah. Nothing will be done. Less peasants on the road.

Then when the wealthy cause the accidents they refuse to pay. Make poor families whose students and breadwinners were the sole hope wait forever for restitution that never comes. High courts tacit compliance.

Absolutely tragic

That pretty much epitomises the people who are trying to fix truly shocking road safety in this country.

Maybe they could introduce air bags on motorcycles

remove all amulets from cars! then maybe not feeling protected they will drive a little more self consciously.

It boils down to education and having respect for your fellow man.  Without that, things will not change.

as living in Thailand, I would like to see a massive traffic light production.

I know, fit everyone with GPS tracking

You can't change stupid and no common sense. And that goes for those in the picture too.

Besides the obvious stated above, Thai people do not know how to control their vehicles if something falls out of whack. Clueless on how to use a steering wheel properly with what hand motions let alone re-correcting on spin or sideways motion..

When you see many Thai women drive a car, they are so close sitting to inches away from the steering wheel it looks like part of their body..

Photo.  one size fits all. Look at the dude in the middle and the one on the right.

It will begin to bear fruit when the Highway Code is learned in kindergarten and then primary school;
incidentally when a true police of the road will be created with polices knowing what they speak about and especially not corruptible - there, I'm afraid it's never possible so much corruption is endemic in this country - , which means well paid and knowing that at the least brown envelope perceived they will be removed from the police and will certainly go to prison .

We may see all this in a century or never ...

Without the use of the safety belt, an airbag is strictly useless;
and what do we see on the roads of Thailand?

Let's be generous, 30% of belts buckled at the front and maybe 1 to 2% at the back; Whereas in two-door pickups, the rear seats are never equipped with seat belts since the seats behind the persons sitting at the front are not designed to carry people; and do not talk about the bucket that is not it either ..

How many people attach in line coaches and minibuses?
How do we stick when we travel in a song theo because we sit perpendicular to the road ...
not to mention song theo that are often sam theo with a bench poses in the alley ...

...again PR photo shots & words from government officials will not do anything. There is s simple solution in other civilized countries to reduce traffic fatalities: 1) need to have a culture that respects rules & be educated about driving a car or motorcycle 2) have a police force that actually is seen and giving out ticket violations.
