Massive tax hike coming for CO2-belching ‘big bikes’

New big bikes have incredibly fuel efficient engines that produce negligible pollutants. 

 

Tuk-tuk's on the other hand.....I bet one tuk-tuk produces more noxious emissions in a typical day than a new bike produces in 100's of hours of driving.

Well the moron brigade are at it again!  So,  they ignore the fact that the worst pollution not just Co2 is spewing from the exhaust pipes of three quarters of the diesel powered vehicles in the country and they decide to clamp an extortionate tax on the  big bike owners.  3 percent of bikes are big bikes.   That is ridiculous.  This is just a money grab plain and simple.

This is really nonsense!  The tour buses and pickup trucks seem to generate 99% of the CO2 emissions in Thailand.  This will just make life difficult for the big bike dealers in Thailand.

This must be far more efficient than having a policeman take a car out on the road and keep holding up traffic by pulling up ancient smoke machines, right?

After all, nobody likes it when people go out on superbikes... I remember being called into the office after taking my son to school for riding too fast (actually following the cars into school driveway).

 

Obviously the noise can be an issue - but this is just taking advantage of predjudice. 

 

Meanwhile, in my soi alone there must be around 20 busses every morning/afternoon belching huge clouds en route to factories - these things don't sit straight on the road, suspension crumbling and look to be at least 30 years old.

Yes, but not as big as methane, and big bikes are a tiny part of CO2 emissions.

 

I agree that climate change is a threat and that CO2 is a factor, but let's be honest, this tax has nothing to do with the environment.

CO2 in the atmosphere: 0.04%

Man made CO2 is about 5% of total CO2 => 5% from 0.04%

All cars and bikes are about 2% of total CO2 => 2% from 5% from 0.04%

 

Thailand produces less than 1% of all of this => 1% from 2% from 5% from 0.04%

 

=> 0.01 x 0.02 x 0.05 x 0.0004 = 0.000.000.004 => 0.000.000.4% !!!

That is a pretty tiny number ... but it surely is worth 100,000 THB !!!

 

BTW ... Agriculture and the Military are the biggest producers of CO2 !!!

Also the big Container ships: The biggest 15 container ships produce as much pollution

as all cars on the planet combined !!! [bunker fuel; the dirtiest fuel you could ever use]

 

It's all insanity !!! Madness !!! ... but it's the agenda of the day.

I really do not understand what all the hoo haa is about. Many countries are adopting the policy of applying greater taxation on higher polluting vehicles. Including many of the developed countries that we come from. Probably all of them.

 

And stands to reason, very logical reason, that the bigger the vehicle, the more the pollution it produces. Hence Bigger bike=bigger engine=more fuel used=more CO² produced.

 

Or is this yet another case of: 'A Thai said it so it must be vilified. whether he's right or not'?

Sure, pollution like particles from incomplete combustion and so on. But CO2 is what you are drinking in your soda water and breathing in all the time, hardly a pollutant.

This is just another idea that is going after the minority,as they

know it will not cause too much blow back,like if they applied

the same tax to say 150-175 cc, looks like they are doing something

to combat CO2, but it does nothing.

 

Just like the salt tax,put it on snacks, but not Fish sauce,salt in

street food,or traditional foods,where Thais would get the most

salt from,but they know better than to try and do that.
