A little less time at the border and maybe a little more space in the van would be nice. I haven't done a border run in many years. When doing ED visas at Vientiane I have found late week is less busy than early week.

I think that there will be more people doing visa runs on Monday and Friday, is that true? If so I may head out on a Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm going to a border in Chanthaburi if it matters, probably Ban Pakard.

EDIT: Actually I now realize these can be done on weekends too. Any comments on how Saturdays and Sundays compare would be nice. I suspect Sundays should be more relaxed.

I can't tell about your route, but yes Sunday is a bit better with traffic (to Udon for me).

Offices and some businesses closed, schools closed. No morning/afternoon "rush hour".

I prefer Sunday for long distance shopping even if the malls and parking decks are packed.

The border crossings will be busier on weekends. Many people cross to do some shopping and go to the casinos.

Possibly the same for the border run vans due to people not working (illegally ?).

For Savannakhet crossing Monday and Thursday are the busy van days (subject to holidays) as apply Monday/get Tuesday or apply Thursday/get Friday are prefered to staying over a weekend.  Suspect same would be true most places for those getting visas so Friday would often be the lowest number of those going for visas.  But if talking actual number of those crossing borders weekends are normally high.
