Missing backpacker’s dad disputes Cambodian authorities’ disappearance theory

The father of a British tourist who disappeared on a Cambodian holiday island disputes a police theory she drowned during a post-party swim.

The heartbroken dad of a missing British backpacker on a Cambodian holiday island insists his daughter was snatched, disputing a police theory she drowned on a night-time swim.

Phil Bambridge, the father of missing tourist Amelia Bambridge, has flown to Cambodia to lead the search for his 21-year-old daughter, The Sun reports.

He said he disagreed with police who say she drowned in the early hours of the morning after attending a beach party.

Rescue workers continue search for Amelia Bambridge

Hundreds of people are still searching for Amelia Bambridge, a British woman who went missing on Koh Rong island last week.

Major General Chuon Narin, chief of provincial police, yesterday said rescue workers have been joined by foreign volunteers to search for Ms Bambridge. “In total, there are about 150 people, including foreign volunteers, who are searching for the British woman,” Maj Gen Narin said. Ms Bambridge has been missing since 3am on Thursday in Koh Rong city’s Koh Rong Sanloem commune. Search and rescue efforts began over the weekend after Ms Bambridge was reported missing by her friends.

One scuba diver yesterday confirmed that his team went as far as four kilometres offshore of where Ms Bambridge was last seen in a bid to recover her. Hun Sokphal of the Preah Sihanouk provincial police and a member of the search party, yesterday confirmed that the entire small island has been searched. Despite combing the mountains, trees and surrounding waters, he stated that little more information is available.

i hope she ok and unharmed.   a possible alternate theory is she is in a different geographic location perhaps during "blackout"

If there is one nation in the region who's government can be trusted even less than that of Thailand, it is Cambodia. If the government gives an official story, it is likely untrue. Hun Sen is a serial killing billionaire gangster. His administration is his fealty.

Doubt that Cambodia has the capabilities to calculate drift tables.  Perhaps china will help them. 4km for 5 days of drifting not likely to be far enough.

The drowning bit is not an official policy theory. Just something said offhand by 1 official, many days back.

The sad truth is that there has been no actual news so media are scratching the bottom of the barrel to come up with something to say.

Though I agree drowning due to having voluntarily gone into the water is very,  very unlikely. The waters there are very calm and shallow plus she has been repeatedly described as a cautious type who stuck with a group. Not the type to leave a gathering and go off swimming in the middle of the night on her own.

The article is a bit misleading. The 6 men were not arrested, just being questioned and  the questioning has now gone on for a few days with no arrests.
