The Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM) said it granted loans totalling Bt140.51 billion in the first nine months of this year, with Bt79.24 billion, or 56.40 per cent, going to SMEs.

EXIM Bank president Pisit Serewiwattana said the bank has outstanding loans of Bt109.74 billion, up Bt13.92 billion, or 14.54 per cent, year on year. This comprises Bt35.37 billion in trade loans and Bt74.36 billion of investment loans, of which Bt35.96 billion went to SMEs.

“The net profit at the end of September this year was Bt547 million,” he said. “While the loan value is rising, the bank had a non-performing loan ratio at the end of September of 4.96 per cent, or Bt5.44 billion, and allowance for doubtful accounts of Bt10.53 billion, up Bt1.61 billion year on year.”

Pisit said the bank has expanded its export credit insurance and investment insurance to help entrepreneurs run or expand their businesses in both existing and new markets.

“In the first nine months of this year, the bank had an export credit and investment business turnover totalling Bt96.77 billion, up Bt31.98 billion year on year; Bt16.42 billion, or 16.97 per cent, went to SMEs,” he said.

“As of the end of the third quarter this year, the bank had granted loans to support international projects totalling Bt83.43 billion. Outstanding loans stand at Bt42.76 billion, while Bt30.56 billion was for Thai investment projects in the CLMV [Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam] bloc, up Bt1.37 billion year on year due to the consistent economic expansion in the region,” Pisit added.
