Thainess
Why on earth would you want to drink Chang? One of the worst beers in the world. It'll rot your insides. 2
Just Weird
Try asking the wholesaler that is going to be supplying your kegs.

I've always preferred Singha, i do drink Chang but I'm having it less often these days. Getting kegs sounds a road to alcoholism
Popular Post blackcab
Breweries in Thailand supply their chillers, fonts, lines, gas and glassware for free. They also send someone to clean the lines once a week (in Bangkok, at least). Chang barrels contain 30 litres. If you are only going to drink 1 or 2 barrels a month then it won't be worth it to the brewery or their distributors to loan you the equipment. A 30 litre barrel will cost you about 2,000 baht, or 67 baht per litre. The thing is you will have to pay the electricity to continuously keep the chiller refrigerated. It's no good wanting a cold beer then turning the chiller on - it takes hours to build up a cold reserve. Or you could buy a pack of 12x620ml bottles for 589 baht from Tesco Lotus, which costs about 79 baht per litre. If you drink 2 barrels a month you will save 720 baht against the Tesco Lotus price, but you will have to pay the increased electricity bill. The other point is that chillers produce quite a lot of heat. If the equipment is in an air-conditioned room you will be paying to chill the beer, then you will be paying again to cool the room the chiller has heated. There is probably a reason more people don't have this setup at home; which is that the cost savings spread across a couple of barrels a month are not worth the hassle.
madbathroomfitter
thanks black cab my only thought was to have more consistent tasting chang and to have it on tap in the house at maybe less cost. i will stick with the 620ml bottles. there is not much choice with thai beer i just think the chang beer tastes better than singh or leo i don't know if chang rots your insides more than the others as said by thainess

Cant stand Leo - pi$$water. Cant stand the taste of Singha, nor any of the cheapo beers. What i also cannot stand is Chang draught - weak, and a completely different taste to the bottled stuff. NB, the correct way to drink Chang, as it is with all bottled Thai and Lao beer, is from a bottle, in a glass, filled to the brim with ice. Cambo & Viet bottled beer is also great.

The problem is that if it takes you 2 weeks to drink a barrel then the beer will change taste over this time as it deteriorates, depending on whether you keep the barrel in ambient temperature or in a chilled environment. DJ54
When I drank beer it was CHANG the other beers give me a headache or taste bad. BUT the Dr. said I had to reduce my fluid intake the ticker was having difficulties dispersing. So switched to Hong Thong ... short glass full with ice and pour 1/3 of the way.. a couple a night you’ll be alright..
