webfact
Video: Giant manta ray filmed in Thai waters Picture: 77koaded Thai media reported that a giant oceanic manta ray - measuring four to five meters across - had been filmed by a deep sea diving guide in the south of Thailand. 77koaded said this was very exciting in their headline. Guide Somporn Kaewmaneechote said he made the film at a depth of 18 meters in 26 meter deep water off Koh Tachai, part of the Similan Islands' national park in Phangnga. Giant manta rays are often bigger than the one in the video - they grow to an average of about 22 feet wingspan and can weigh up to 3,000 pounds. Unless disturbed they generally present no threat to humans. MRToMRT
I would not have thought this to be a rare event as both species of manta have been filmed and photographed many times in the southern waters of Thailand????
