$100 a day might be a good reference for you - unless you're into double dipping of course...

From 5000 baht and up. For 5000 baht you will get a bed to sleep in in the Banglamphu area, but will share it with one or two cockroaches; you will be able to have one beer per day, cannot use taxis unless you team up with at least two others each time, stick to the street stalls for eating (the food is often just as good as in many restaurants) and leap at an opportunity to let others pay your way.

For 10 000 baht, you can upgrade that and have a truly alright time, albeit on a budget - stay at a normal, no frills guest house. If you're into drinking, buy your beer in small shops and drink one or two before going on to more expensive places. You will be able to catch taxis every now and then and eat excellent Thai food at mid range restaurants, or functional but uninspiring Western food at the same restaurants without a worry.

For 20,000 baht or more, you should have no grief whatsoever, providing you have a decent medical/travel insurance.

No matter what your budget is and unless you have a fetish for hotels and plan to spend most of your time in bed, avoid spending 1500 - 2000 baht per night on a hotel - in most places in Thailand you can get a perfectly acceptable place for 400 - 800, and will have more money to spend on more interesting things.

Hotel in Pattaya - 600 baht per day up to 2,500 baht per day for Penthouse Hotel, fifth floor (one room)

Food - 300 baht per day up to 750 baht per day, depending on your taste.

Bar - half a dozen beers at anything from 45 to 75 baht in most places (some are 100 to 150 baht)

Lady drinks - 80 - 100 baht

Bar-fine 300 baht to 500 baht

Lady tip - 1,000 to 2,000 baht.

So you can live by yourself for 1,000 baht per day or live a happy life for anything between 4,000 to 7,500 baht per day (US $ 100 to 200)
