At this time of year in central Europe everything is gray. Sky is gray, houses and streets seem gray. The faces of people look gray (due to frustration or lack of Vitamin D, I don't know).
Reading the newspaper will turn anyones face into "a whiter shade of pale". Turmoil in Venezuela, Columbia, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Lebanon, Irak, Iran, Afghanistan, Kashmir. Europeans can't get their act together. The Brits and the US flirting with isolationism. The "low-wage" populace in the EU/US wondering how come they get poorer and the 5% Elite gets richer all the time.

But long-term Farangs in Thailand also have ended up in a highly undesirable place. Just imagine:

- They should have 800K Bht in the Bank and would have to invest about 10 hours of their preciuous time per year to stay legal (outrageous!)
- Where to live? Pattaya too much Nightlife. Hua Hin not enough Nightlive. Isaan? Not enough of anything, except boredom. Chiang Mai? Too much smoke. (Could easily be rectified by banning cigarette smokers. Since cigarette-smokers have been banned from the Beaches, the air-quality in Pattaya has improved dramatically).:cheesy:

And the moral of the story: In a time where global "insecurity" is clearly on the increase, to live in a country where Buddhism and "may pen rai" have been the true "Governement" for centuries may not be such a bad place to be, after all. "Gouvernements" in Thailand have come and gone, but Buddhism and mainly the "mai pen rai" has remained.
I am sure if there were more "mai pen rai" outside of Thailand we would be living in a more benovolent global environement. So let's enjoy the "may pen rai", reighning in Thailand, before it get's thrown into the garbage-bin of history.
Cheers.

In short, the grass is not greener, its gray, so stay put, for now anyway ! ????

I firmly believe that most Farangs find that the grass of Thailand is still "green enough" for them. Especially after having had a closer look at "alternative-paradises". So they are likely to "stay put".

I myself will always be where the grass is the "greenest". I suspect that the green-grass of Thailand will remain far "greener" for Farangs than in so many other places. At least for the foreseeable future.

Well sure.  The "everyone is leaving" crowd are just part of a naive negative group false think.

In fact, I know several new guys who have moved here in the past few months.

A couple have come from Singapore (wouldn't you think the grass is greener there?).

But, believe whatever you want.

Singapore is too expensive, too sterile, too controlled.

If LOS had the sanuk of the 90s combined with the can do of the Singaporeans of the 70s it'd be paradise.

I was lucky enough to live in Singapore in the 70s before they banned Bugis St nightlife and turned it into another sterile boring place to eat.

Best place on earth back then.

Had fate been kinder I'd still be living in LOS and not just dreaming about it.
