Carnage?

I just did a search for road safety in Thailand on this forum and got very limited results.

so I put in just one word instead - "carnage" and got hit after hit.

 

I than went to a thesaurus web site and got a few synonyms.

bloodshed

butchery

crime

havoc

killing

mass murder

slaughter

slaying

warfare

annihilation

blitz

blood

butchering

extermination

gore

hecatomb

holocaust

homicide

liquidation

manslaughter

murder

offing

rapine

shambles

wasting

blood and guts

blood bath

search and destroy

taking out

What does all this mean?

Well, when it comes to road safety, it seems a pretty good indicator of the paucity of thinking by the media and many contributors to Thaivisa as well.

Evey time there is an RTI in Thailand the same set of confirmation bias, prejudice against the Thai nation, and the same old cliches are rolled out time and again by both TV contributors and the authorities. Nothing changes......has it not occurred to anyone that they are part of the reason that road safety shows no significant improvement in Thailand?

The problem is simply not seen for what it is, but what those "experts" want it to be. To them, isn't a health problem, it is something to do with all other drivers but themselves.

When people start to see the problem for what it is then maybe we will see less cliches and more constructive thought and criticism on the topic and, heaven forbid, an improvement in the situation.

Common media less use of "carnage" and a bit more analysis!

and that is all there is to it. 100% on them for not enforcing the law and allowing Thais to do what ever they want on the highways.

QED - an utterly incorrect assessment of the situation.

Enforcement is only one part of the problem, and looking at single issues has proved hopeless for the past 20 years, yet people still cling to the vain hope that this increasingly complex situation can be explained by one single ill-thought out solution.

ok. thank you. you are entitled to your opinion. i would not have responded in such unilateral way but that is just me. have a nice topic.

It’s in their upbringing. Thai males are allowed to do what they like with no discipline.... Then they get into a car!

 

Compare this to the strict upbringing of a Thai girl….. Speak when you are spoken to, keep your head down, your mouth shut and your knees together and you will be alright girl!

 

We should not complain though, if they were brought up western style we would not be here enjoying love in a duty free zone.

Let's forget about Thai bashing, bad drivers and racist remarks disguised as criticisms of Thai "culture".

 

These are the underlying factors in road safety as identified by the WHO using scientifically validated evidence

 

"The core components of Save LIVES are Speed management, Leadership on road safety, Infrastructure design and improvement, Vehicle safety standards, Enforcement of traffic laws and Survival after a crash. These components are interrelated and need to be implemented in an integrated manner, following the Safe System Approach, to effectively address the problem of road traffic deaths and injuries." - WHO

 

countries that don't spend time on blame and other cliches have be far the safest roads - it's about time the Thai authorities took their heads out of the sand and embraced the scientific approach

The source of that which is incomprehensible in Thailand is Animism, beliefs in the spirit world,  ancestor worship,  Taoism, Buddhism. Corruption is relative. One of the most corrupt countries in the world is the UK, Russia,  the USA. Thailand is just an amateur really but a lot more charming.

The members' opinions on Thaivisa are not likely going to change road safety here.   Better to convince the media and the Thai authorities to put forth public safety notices to encourage road safety to reduce the carnage and for the authorities to do a better job of enforcing traffic violations.
