Thailand Integrates Blockchain to E-Visa System for Higher Security

Thailand, one of the most-visited countries in the world, will soon apply blockchain to its Electronic Visa On Arrival (eVOA).

Thailand’s new blockchain-powered eVOA system intends to speed up and protect the digital visa application process and will soon be available for five million visitors from 20 countries.

The upcoming eVOA feature is a joint effort of Australian travel company ShareRing and Gateway Services, an entity that owns the license to process eVOA for Thailand, according to a press release shared with Cointelegraph on Dec. 19. According to the announcement, Thailand will initially roll out the blockchain-enabled eVOA service with a focus on visitors from China and India.

Now you do: https://builtin.com/blockchain

If it's anything like the  online visa application process in the UK there will be hardly anyone getting a visa.

Given that one entity has complete control over the whole process, I question the value of blockchain.

But, of course, there are commissions and kickbacks in the offing, so it doesn't surprise me that they're adopting it...

not sure if going ueber-thailand 4.0.1 with ultra long blockchain security will do much good........

not when photocopies of personal information are used for printer paper and handed out as note paper at immigration offices, and when immigration officials are selling applicants' private data to visa agents.

but it sounds good, eh...........asian digital security hub!

doesnt matter as the E visa thailand system certainly does not work reliably 90%  of the time in UK , most people end up at a consulate after the E visa system loses all the data inputed numerous times

Once they combine biometrics and blockchains in their smart cars, Thailand will be a safer place ????

It makes sense for ledgers.   It allows a multitude of others or third parties keep track of money spent or received with security and accuracy.  Banks and credit card companies use databases, as they are centralized and do everything themselves.  Bitcoin is the opposite.   It has no central controlling entity.   Businesses that share customers are starting to look at blockchains.

Blockchains are a buzzword.  Using blockchains garners more attention than using a database.

Bos explained that such a combination of blockchain tech and OCR reduces the amount of time required for eVOA partners to manually verify all the information.

So this only helps manual verification, which is already slow

The system mentioned in the OP is nothing to do with the system in the UK - it's for visa on arrival nationals and if you're from the UK you aren't one.  In the UK it's an E Application only and a physical visa is affixed to your passport.

Yeah but the system is a shambles anyway
