The monthly allowance for those with special needs will be raised from Bt800 to Bt1,000, the Department of Empowerment of Persons With Disabilities’ committee decided at a meeting.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit chaired the meeting and said the resolution would soon be forwarded for approval to the Cabinet.

Some 2 million Thai citizens with special needs are expected to benefit from the allowance hike.

Budgetary allocation is expected to increase by Bt4.8 billion a year, which needs to be injected in the middle of 2020 or the beginning of 2021.

So an increase of 200 baht per person for 2 million claimants is 400 million baht yet they are budgeting 4.8 billion baht? No need to ask where the remainder will end up.

400 million per month.

Multiply that by 12.

Wow have very generous.... A whole 200 baht per month, bloody pathetic.

How does anybody expect disabled people to live on such a paultry sum?

As quoted above the figures dont add up, so some damn greedy sod is going to pocket some serious money.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I bloody knew it would be a paltry increase.

But the government will crow about how good they are giving an increase to the daily wage & now this.

They could do so much more....

Yes they do, increasing it by B200 - it could have been zero.

An increase of 200 baht on the 800 baht they pay now is an enormous increase. It may 'only' take the total to 12,000 baht per year, but give them credit where it's due.

Does this apply to British State pension holders?  My special needs have been frozen for 12 years!

Consider that the minimum wage was raised by 5-6 thb/day....or about 120-150 baht a month....and those ppl actually do 24-26 days work a month....

Yes, in comparison it is generous!

For a country that is not big on welfare, this can be viewed as a step in the right direction.
