Thai Chamber of Commerce proposes draft law to improve air quality

nt1.jpg

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai Chamber of Commerce has submitted a proposal to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chuan Leekpai, on a draft law to tackle air pollution, because it is adversely affecting the Thai economy.

The Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Kalin Sarasin, said hazardous dust particles have negative effects on tourism and people’s health. However, the current law does not fully address the problem.

Mr. Kalin said relevant agencies have held a meeting to discuss pollution’s economic impact, particularly in Chiang Mai province, where more than 10,000 people signed their names in support of the drafting of the Clean Air Bill. The proposal suggests setting up a committee on clean air, chaired by the prime minister, and comprised of ministers with related portfolios. The committee is to monitor the air situation and design related policies and penalties for offenders.

Mr. Chuan received the proposal and suggested that these recommendations should be discussed directly with the government. The legislative proposal will then be presented at a House meeting to expedite the enactment process.

The House Speaker said legislators recognize the importance of the pollution problem. He also agreed that different government agencies have to integrate their work to avoid overlapping duties and responsibilities.

Thais proving once again that they are completely useless, as if any further evidence was required.

Let me summarize:

1. Chamber of Commerce has submitted a proposal on a draft law

2. Proposal suggests setting up a committee, chaired by the Prime Minister

3. Committee is to monitor the air situation and design related policies

4. Mr. Chuan received the proposal and suggested that these recommendations should be discussed directly with the government.

5. The legislative proposal will then be presented at a House meeting to expedite the enactment process

In other words, they don't have a clue...and will keep up the appearance that they are making progress when in fact it's a mutual backslapping circle-jerk fiesta of incompetent tards.

This place is out of control and people couldnt careless. Last night i rode past a house where there was a lady and a man sleeping outside the house in bamboo bed with plastic burning beside them to keep warm. Thats a whole other level of dumb!

That being the case a purge type law should come in whete anyone setting fires can be killed. Like a revenge killing. That will fix it and probably the only way. Law sux, Thais are weak and love to be loved. Throwing orders around at children just gets rebellion....

Sums it up pretty well.

Not all change is progress, not all activity is progress.

Every mention in the press adds to your pooyay barami.

It's very sad really, the things Thais believe are important.

Not the root of the problem. The root of the problem is Thais know laws are not for enforcing unless there is some other reason (eg losing face requiring retaliatory action). So if a law is inconvenient, just ignore it, nothing untoward will happen unless you're important and have narked off someone else important.

It's beyond sad, it's tragic. Still, so long as you have someone high up explaining that Thais lead the world, then you can still feel good about yourself, even if the average IQ in Thailand is on a par with many African countries.

It is time to get rid of the bad habit to burn all kind of garbage. That would basically solve the problem outside the big cities.

In news from upcountry, when I asked my girl if it is smokey because I don't like to stay there if it is.  She said cannot because police stop people from burning the fields, I think burning is OK for some but not for others.

Words are but wind.....and not the type of wind that dissipates the smoke and PM 2.5.  Don't hold your breath.  (Hummm, on the other hand that may be a good idea)

I thought there was a law detailing a 10,000 baht fine for burning already on the books.

18 grumpy and negligent OLD males and one young female (probably only task is to serve refreshment). Pretty good illustration of how this country is run.

Yes, that´s what they are doing. Since years. And nothing happens. Always only blablabla - and blaming the neighbor countries.

There is a reason why there are nil members of Mensa in Thailand - and it is not because Thais dont care about the prestige of being in the top 1-2% of the World.  Many people think it is the schooling system - but those of us who know the truth, understand that the school system outputs are cr** because the inputs are the main problem.  Lovely wonderful fantastic clever people - but not so smart.

Believe you are correct, I know "some" have been prevented from burning and they knew that they could not do so without major retribution, yet others are immune, due to ????????????

So what's the plan? change the indoctrination/education system to make everybody "smart" ????

The Thai government should man up and immediately BAN and ENFORCE all OUTSIDE burning nationwide period... full stop!  I've been flying my new drone out in the Isaan countryside for the past couple of weeks.  <deleted> it's hazy and there are plumes and plumes of smoke from Thais burning old crops (and garbage) everywhere.  Geez, it looks like Vietnam during the height of the US aerial bombing campaigns back in 1972-73! ????????????????

Burning garbage and fields is not the only problem. Excessive construction, car exhaust and factories are leading contributors as well. In addition neighboring countries commit the same pollution offenses. Asia collectively needs to reduce all the sources of pollution if they're ever going to put a dent in it. Obviously "monitoring" pollution is completely worthless when action is needed. Clean energy sources including small modular nuclear reactors, solar power, hydroelectric power, electric cars, emission standards, Less construction, and yes less burning need to happen. I think China would need to take the lead in earnest before Thailand would follow suit and that may take a long time.

But is the farmers don't burn the sugar cane stubble, then the price of sugar cane goes up and the pooyays start foaming at the mouth.

Can't have that. No biting of the hand that feeds you, just that nice Mr Prayuth, he knows all about feeding hands... he knows all about everything if you listen carefully to what he says... like a cure for Diabetes 2 is to eat more rice for example. Classic.

But, but, but..................... they already have the solutions because the best minds in the country have worked out that the following actions will solve all the problems:

– Spray water up in the air to clean it.

– Send aeroplanes up to cloud-seed, so that it rains and that helps.

– Do nothing to punish farmers and others for burning crops/rubbish/whatever.

– Turn a blind eye to old diesel trucks belching out black fumes.

– Don't bother to check the polluting vehicles when they are up for road tax renewal.

Here you have Thailand which is polluting the country and killing its citizens, and allowing other countries to do likewise, and decides to do next to sweet FA about it. Absolute clowns.

Ah yes, it's too old. Is that it??

You should post that footage on YouTube and share the link here, I'm sure many members would find it fascinating.

The chamber of commerce?

I would think the ministry for the environment would be the one for this, TIT

Very far from being modern and with openminded attitudes.
