Re-Entry Permit Query (Leaving & then arriving back In Thailand AFTER expiration date on my O-A Visa) Visa

'CAUTION: If you leave and plan to return after the expiration date on the multiple entry “O-A” Visa, you will need a Re-Entry Permit from Thai Immigration before you depart – without the Re-Entry Permit, your extension of stay is cancelled when you leave Thailand.'

I understand I'll need a Re-Entry Permit Due to leaving and returning to Thailand after the expiration date on the multiple entry “O-A” Visa.

My passport exit stamp date shows 23 August 2020.

I need to leave Thailand twice prior to 23 August 2020 (initially on 25 February 2020 & then again in July 2020).

Do I need to attend Jomtien Immigration twice or can I get one R E Permit that will cover both trips?

When do I need to apply for the R E Permit?

What is the cost & what documents will I need?

Cheers

You can apply for a multiple re-entry permit for a fee of 3,800 baht or a single for a fee of 1,000 baht. Both will be valid to the date your current permit to stay date ends.

You could get either one of them now if you wanted to.

You will need a completed TM8 form with a 4 X 6 photo attached to it, copy of passport photo page, visa. entry stamp and TM6 departure card.

Much appreciated...

One more thing: will I require Health Insurance from one of the approved Thai companies in order to get the Extension of Stay based on my O-A visa?

I was under the impression that extension of stays were exempt from the health insurance requirement...& it's only required when you have an actual Retirement Visa.

i cannot predict what will be needed in August of next year. There is just to much of chance it will change before then.

I think you will find that your re-entry permit expires when your "O-A" visa expires.

Re-entry permits are not issued for visas. They are issued for a permit to stay obtained from a visa and end when it does.

I appreciate you know more than me on this subject. Not that I was suggesting the above. Earlier this year I had to return to the UK. I have a Non immigration "O" visa based on marriage. I applied for and received a re-entry permit which was stamped as valid until the date my "O" Visa was due to expire.

Is it possible you actually have an Extension based on marriage? Or you have converted a Visa Exempt Entry (or Tourist Visa Entry) into a Non-Imm-O, both of which would have been obtained in Thailand?

A re-entry permit  always matches the current Permit To Stay date.

I had a 1 year multi entry non immigration "O" Visa which I applied for in the UK from the consulate. This was converted to a non immigration "O" Visa based on marriage a few months later here in Thailand. Every extension after that was based on marriage to a Thai Lady.

The OP seems to suggest he will return to Thailand after his "O" visa expires. So I have no idea if that is possible as his re-entry permit expires when his "O" Visa expires. Or do I have it wrong?

So you are saying the guy can enter Thailand with a re-entry permit even though his visa has expired? I realise a re entry permit is not a visa. It allows you to leave and enter Thailand without losing the validity of the original visa. Which seems at odds with the OP's needs as he says he will return after his Visa expires?

No that I'm splitting hairs but you seem to suggest that his re-entry permit expires when his visa does? Which is basically what I am saying.

to quote

They are issued for a permit to stay obtained from a visa and end when it does.

end of quote.

You mixing up visas and permits to stay.

People normally do not have a valid visa when they apply for a re-entry permit.

In the case of those on extension of stay their visa could of expired many years ago.

A single entry visa becomes invalid when it is used for an entry since it has already been used for the one entry it allowed.

You are right, Sorry I missed the fact the OP is on a multi entry "O" visa.

Ah, so in reality a marriage extension...(not a Visa), yes the re-entry permit would match the date on that.

The re-entry permit expires when your current permission to stay expires. Nothing to do with your visa expiration. Your visa might have expired years ago, but if you have a valid permission to stay you could still get a re-entry permit. In fact getting a re-entrypermit iimplies that you won't have a useable, unexpired visa when you will return.

You're missing the point. Whatever sort of visa someone had, a re-entry permit is tied to when your current permission to stay expires, not the expiration date printed on the visa. My visa expired more than a decade ago. I can still get and use a re-entry permit.
