Congratulations to US stocks investors. The S&P 500 was up 28.9% for 2019, its biggest one-year gain since 2013, when it rallied 29.6%. The Nasdaq also had its best one-year performance in six years after rallying 35.2% in 2019. The Dow rose 22.3% in 2019, its best annual performance since 2017.

The best performing sector is the tech sector which went up 47.9%.

If only success in the market translated into better finances for the vast majority of Americans...

 

I seem to recall that one of the best ways to pump up a company's stock price is to announce mass layoffs and cost cutting. Or jack up the price of a life saving health care product...

 

Not to mention the tried and true method of wealth redistribution...  Get the masses of suckers to invest in a growing market or commodity, then pull the rug out from under them every few years.  We're about due for another haircut.

Tax cuts and stock buybacks were important factors for stock prices and large investors. Too bad for the working person who will pay for the big tax cuts. The stock market performance was good to me, but my kids are struggling.
