Been looking for a house, have decided wife's home district Mae Taeng too far away. Saw one massive new development in Hang Dong today and really liked the one house, would like to know if there are any other new Moo Baan's around that area, have to have a one story house as wife had stroke years ago an steps are a big issue.

New houses have security, insulation and electronic gates. Appreciate any tips, can't remember right now what developments name is, 6 sections, supposedly 800 homes. Looked pretty appealing but pushing the budget at 7.5M for a 3-2 house in the cheapest section....

In general i would of course advise to rent and not to buy.

What's your budget, how many rooms, how many sqm, do you want a moobaan with a pool, or even a private pool? How much garden do you need?

If by 3-2 house you mean a three bedroom, two bathroom detached house: In the cheaper moobans these start at about 3 million.

I know a person in CM who has an immaculate, not too old, single home for sale, somewhere around H D. She is looking for 2.8. I've seen many pictures, it's beautiful and from what I can tell, all top notch material and maintenance.

PM me if you wish to know more.

There are some moo baans at the Canal Rd. after the Samoeng intersection. Take a look there.

I agree with @jackdd that it´s perhaps better to rent. But a friend is a real estate agent and offers new houses in a small moo baan in the Hangdong area, starting from 2.25MB. If you are interested, you can send me a message with your FB, then I can make a contact.

To expound, I need a one story, hopefully 3 bedroom, 2 bath, Thinking around 180 Sq meters. and will have to have maid room as she needs a helper, She got no use at all of right arm and little use of right leg. We way past 60, and this will be end of the line. She now wants a gated place with decent security where we can leave for a month or so and not worry about our stuff. Also would like to have some neighbors who I can talk to, bicycle round and not get run over...now we up in Mae Taeng, got here 3 months ago, staying at grandmas place, very old Thai house and spartan is a good word for it. Have not met anyone here but don't get out much. Was looking for land up here but what we saw was in middle of nowhere and we don't need to be isolated, we are retired. Time to slow down and enjoy whatever we got left. Meet some people...Have friends and kin in Surat, Pattaya, and around but she is from here and wants to be here. I quit arguing about 35 years back..Yes I heard about the pollution but we will buy air purifiers and escape to the coast when it gets too hot. My wifes a one handed cooking fool, and brought a container full of her stuff.

My time here was 73-74-75, all expense paid USAF Korat/Ubon. But fell in love with the country and then met the girl later.

We been dreaming about retiring here for years, well now its here.

I truly appreciate the tips and advice.

Thanks again

as far as budget goes I would hope to stay under 5 million but if she is happy we can push to 200K USD, so around 6 million. Something that would work around 3 million or so would be great, but she's buying it, I am just the fulong...

Presuming you have transport why not drive around the areas you like and I can guarantee every house for sale within the Moobans will have a sign on the front gate with a phone no.

If you go up and down Canal Rd and Hang Dong Rd, both sides of the roads, there must be 30 + Mooban's of various sizes.Should be quite easy to find what you are looking for within that budget and its a buyers market judging by the amount of homes for sale in our Mooban.

Alternative web sites like Perfect Homes,Expat Homes and many others have listings of new and second hand properties in the area you are looking at (English speaking staff)

Good luck.

Would suggest moobaan wang tan in hang dong..

Nice leafy green streets.. Lots of options for both rent and purchase.. Plenty of farangs but not exclusively so.. Relatively safe and decently connected to various super markets etc.. Theres many single story homes in the 4 and 5 section.

Ticks a lot of your boxes.

EDIT :: Lanna Pinery.. Home in Park.. Masterpiece (unsure about bunglows).. Even baan nai fan etc all are options.. I just like the greenery and space of BWT.

After reading many posts about life up here, we've decided to also look in Rayong area. Couple reasons being the pollution during the spring n summer. Other is wife's best friend will be returning to Thailand and will be in the same area within a year. They both brides of the Vietnam era and been friends for 44 years. I tried to convince her to rent for aa year and insure she likes it here and that didn't go over well. I will revisit this later in February.

Many thanks for the suggestions, they were all very valid. I love the mountains but not sure we can handle the summers.

I would suggest personal observation.. Complainers love to complain, and I guess it bothers some more than others.

My take is it bothers me and is far less than ideal, but would need to be much worse to make me leave. Traffic and other things are higher issues for me.

I hear ya but I last lived here in 73-74-75, none of this crossed my mind back then but what we saw through December 2019 in Mae Taeng, could hardly see the mountains. Driving into CM is not for the faint of heart either. Traffic is one reason why BKK is out. Thought Chiang Dao was beautiful but she ain't going there. Drive to Rayong and check it out, we retired now, all I got is time... Peein and moanin seem to be big in the forums but got lots of that in USofA so used to filtering it out.
