There were bushfires. Very bad bushfires but still bushfires. And they fall under the purview of the state and local governments not the federal government.

For the federal government to impose "national" programs, it would also entail imposing regulations on such things as scrub removal, and building in fire zones. Quite rightly, the states might oppose such federal intervention. They can't have it both ways. Either the federal government intervenes in local affairs, or it's a state responsibility.

Good point.I haven,t seen any response from Thailand government as to any aid or support for Australia in this crisis.  Have I missed it?
