Police: 14,178 took part in ‘Run Against Dictatorship’

The Metropolitan Police Service reported that 14,178 people participated in the “Run Against Dictatorship” at Wachirabenchatat Park on January 12. The number included about 2,000 general runners.

 

Organisers decided that the event should be separated into two rounds as there were approximately 10,000 people who registered to take part.

 

In Chiang Mai, 500 runners joined the event, in Chiang Rai 400, Ubon Ratchathani 400, Khon Kaen 300, Pattani 300, Mahasarakham 200, Phitsanulok 200 and Pathum Thani 200. 

 

In Nakhon Ratchasima, 500 people were to take part but local officials tried to prevent the event taking place. The participants had to move to three different spots before they were able to start running.

 

Meanwhile in the opposite camp, organisers of the “Walking for Prayut” event claimed that around 13,000 people took part. However, some photographers in the area said the number of people looked smaller.

 

In Matichon Online’s poll, 97 per cent of netizens voted that the “Run Against Dictatorship” was more successful than “Walking for Prayut”.

... plus about 300 in Pattaya who walked along the promenade on Beach Road.

Next event on Sunday Feb 2nd with the main focus on Chiang Mai. Will numbers be up?

Lots of photos seen here of the runners. But the claim of 13,000 people no photographic evidence just hearsay, failed attempt Mr P. " some photographers in the area said the number of people looked smaller."

During this kind of event, cycling or walking, only those who have the time and also often the money participate.
So we will see neither farmer nor merchant nor industrial nor well on their employees.
it significantly reduces the number of potential participants.
and then there are all those who do not care or who can not participate for a lot of reasons ..

including the poor, and they are legion in Thailand because the purchase of a good quality bike or shoes for running  is very beyond their means ...

BBC reported about 3'000 registered for the run for Prayut

From the BBC photos it seems like the run for Prayut was attended by the old, whilst the run against dictatorship was attended by the young. And the young will outlive the old. The future has spoken it seems.

Anyway, these people want to exchange the current government by a new government lead by a guy who bought a political party, and declared he does this for the people........

What is so difficult to understand, politicians go into politics for money and power.

If the politician has plenty of money, then it is power he seeks.

Still better than the current government that need to skew the constitution, change the election laws and commandeered the EC to cheat and win the election.
 

By the way FFP is founded by Thanathorn and nothing unusual that he provide a loan as seed money for his party. He didn’t ‘buy’ the party as you maliciously said. 

 

He need the power to rid a corrupt and dictatorial government.

Virtually everyone I talk to, anywhere in the country I travel, absolutely despises the army, and Prayuth. And for so many valid reasons. They were more of less tolerated before, and even admired by some. Not anymore. He wore out his welcome years ago. 

 

Thanathorn is greatly admired and well liked. Also for good reason. He and the FFP are about the only hope this nation currently has. Who else is there?

I had a turn out for the general at 08.15 exactly and flushed twice just waiting for my free t shirt and 500 baht attendance allowance????

My fear is, if that the economy tanks and protests ramp up, the government will bring out it's new American tanks

For those that seem to be confused all I can say is do your own research. The hugely positive data is all out there. Balance of payments, GDP and all the other indicators show that regionally, Thailand is strong. It is better positioned than several of their regional neighbors to weather any global downturn that is blowback from other, much larger and far distant nations economic and political challenges.

 

Yes, the strength of the Baht is a hindrance but AFAIK, having to cut back on one's weekly Archa allowance is NOT a globally recognized benchmark of any country's fiscal fortitude.

Hans seems to ignore all the signals of Thanathorn having fight for common folks and the poor since university.

Some other parties (commoner party for instance) tried with similar ideas tried to win votes during the 'elections', but with little cash and little advertising those didn't seem to have much chance.
