Most of the onions will come from Un Zed, grown in the volcanic soils near Auckland. Pukekohe from memory.

A poster, 'Huckenfall', I think, posted about KING sausages available at his local Makro. 220 baht from memory. I've been to Nakhon Nayok Makro several times since but all I see are frankfurter type things.

Cumberland Sausages in Makro, bought a pack of ten just yesterday for 199.

Makro also have good stocks of German Sausages like Bratworst etc; more expensive but they are all better than the Frankfurter type rubbish that the Thai's call Sausages.

 

What i would like to see is some decent Meat Pies, Pork, Beef, Chicken etc, nothing at all here unless you want to pay outrageous prices at Rimping or a couple of specialist importers.  I make my own but it would be so much easier to pick something out of a chill cabinet.

Thais have no use for potatoes lol. My wife refuses to eat them when in States.

 

Next they'll be removing tarrifs on black hair dye or chilli's.

Because this is Asia. Why would you expect meat pies or whatever. This is just unhealthy, processed food. It's good you make your own.

The time when food was only from local ingredients passed by decades ago. In Europe finding a Thai food shop even in the smaller cities is not hard. In here, Thais put a luxury tax on imports. I do find some logic to it, German sausages are a luxury compared to the local ones.

Little bakery near me in Pattaya make lovely pies and sausage rolls... be silly for me to make my own !!

Pattaya is a expat/tourist enclave. Everyone lives there life, goes about their business it has nothing to do with Thailand. I lived there many years ago in the slow season six months a year. There's nothing Thai about Pattaya at all. Foreigners outnumber locals 10:1 or more. Probably has as much fast food as Bangkok by now. Twenty years ago it was difficult finding decent Thai food there. Respectable thai avoid the place. Just full of upcountry bumpkins. In seven years never met anyone born in chonburi.

 

The fact you can get meat pies which Thais would never, ever eat pretty much proves the point. I doubt I could find them at my three supermarkets located closest to me in central Bangkok

The red "New Zealand" apples ( can't remember what variety name they call them ) sold in Makro  are delicious and a good price too.  I don't much like the "Granny Smiths" though..more like cooking apples ????
