Navy's submarine-purchase plan to go ahead

Royal Thai Navy's submarine purchase plan is on track following Cabinet's approval of its fiscal 2020 budget, said Commander in Chief Admiral Luechai Ruddit on Wednesday (Jan 15). 

 

He said purchases of the Navy's second and third submarines were part of the strategic masterplan. 

 

With regard to the submarine crews, Luechai said they would be sent for a two-year training course. The commander didn’t explain further but said they would become a special force.

Just what they need, more expensive equipment. Just think, a fraction of that cost could be used to upgrade the old red Mitsubishi buses in Bangkok from about the 80s which are a main cause of pollution.

What ever happened to the shiny new Chinese Built / Malaysian finished buses that landed in Laem Chabang that were meant to replace them , the right palms were obviously not greased sufficiently to get them through customs. ????

My guess is that these subs will be used for sneaking the big spending Indians into the country.....cannot see any use for them otherwise

I'm relieved, Chiang Rai, Nong Khai and Mukdahan really need them!

Yesterday we had a power cut and  no water at the same time.   But we've got submarines, tanks and aircraft so stuff the infrastructure of the country.

I don't suppose English is the international language for submariners, like it is for international flying?

At least they will now be able to take on the war on plastic in the seas

Submarines are far more important than new citybuses for BKK since they are only 50 years old with a wooden floor where i have to crawl in since the floor wasn't even lowered.

 

They even can't buy new buses, they had the cash 5 years ago and it became another thai fiasco....

I have airforce and marine family members in thailand....they never speak to me because they can't sapee inlit....mai pen lai.

Can't wait to see what happens when Somchai is let loose with a submarine. The mind boggles at the possibilities. And just what did Thailand need a submarine for? Ah, it couldn't be for the purpose of lining someones pocket with kickbacks could it?

The problem is the armaments for the armed forces were a part of the 'yeah, I'll support your coup' deal.

So BS and Pathetic. There is no reason these turd big fat heads need subs. They wanted an aircraft carrier and this thing is the biggest piece of unused dormant doo doo that sits in the port and basically is only scrap iron worthy. What about the people? The air? The water? The real citizens and their true saviors the expats? Oh, what the heck am I going on about. It is all about them and all about them. Good luck to FFP on the 21rst..

As I have posted before, Thailand does not have any submariners or anyone who has served on a submarine. Now they are saying they will send guys on a 2 year course !!  The sub design is already over 10 years old, so they will have a novice crew in an old Chinese submarine.  I dread the results of what probably will happen ! That's if they ever gets used. Could stick them next to the aircraft carrier !

I'm actually beginning to think they are buying the subs for a quick undetected escape if (when) it all goes bits up

Clearly you have no experience as a submariner, which I was after serving in special forces in Afghanistan. Subs were crucial in our victory there.

They can park them next to the Aircraft Carrier that goes nowhere and open a navy amusement park or turn them into hotels with bars and restaurants on the decks.

Must have been a BOGOF. Thailand approached China for one sub, got offered three for the price of two and there it was, a done deal.

 

No Thai can ever turn down a freebie.

It was a buy 2 and get one free deal they couldn't refuse. When their Kursk moment inevitably comes it will blow The Cave right out of the water.

Well, the writing is on the wall and the drought is going ahead. The golf courses though are still juicily green and, as far as the submarines are concerned, I suggest the addition of little wheels to the subs hulls. Maybe even consider fixing some solar panels too ....... 

This will secure their maneuverability along the Mekong between Ubon Ratchathani and Chiang Rai and should be included in the master plan of theirs ???? .
