should we install new electrics before the painters move in?

We are renovating a building and I wanted to check the order of workers ie who does what when...

 

So far we have ripped out the old gyprock ceiling and will re-use the aluminium frames to later install the new gyprock.

Last week some workers from the painting team came in and started removing all the old wall papers off the walls but some of the old wires and switches are in the way. Am I correct in saying the order of work is:

 

1st: Ask electrician to remove all wires and switches off walls and those lying on top of the aluminum frames in the ceiling

2. Painter workers return to 100% remove wall paper and old paint. They can sand and get all surfaces ready

3. Electrician returns and re-do all new wiring and switches on walls and ceilings. The wiring for new proposed down lights can just hang down from ceiling

4. Ceiling guy comes to install new gyprock after laying down insulation bats

5. Electrician comes back to install new lights in ceiling?

6. Painters come in and start all painting work.

 

If we do 5 after 6 then they will put dirty marks all over the ceilings.

 

Is this the correct order of work?

Once the Gyproc is up and a preliminary coat of paint applied.

 

Your sparks should cut out (and test fit) for the downlights leaving the wiring hanging (First fix).

 

Painter finishers the painting.

 

Sparks installs the lights in the already prepared holes without marking the new paint (Second fix).

 

Painter touches up the marks left by sparky.

 

It's far easier to touch up paint than it is to get paint off electrical fittings.

If the wiring on the walls will be surface mount I would paint the walls first.

And they‘ll likely need to skim-coat after they strip the paper.

do you mean that the new wires are not inside the walls ie they are displayed on the surface (on the wall same as the photo). If so do you agree then that the order above:

also when you say skim coat do you mean primer?

Yes, definitely 6 in 3rd position. Painters do their best with naked walls and you get a better final product. Just needs a bit of care when re-doing the electrics, etc., to be careful not to mess up the paint. Make sure that the painters leave you a can of whatever it is that they use so that you can do touch-ups in the future.

Surely you want to paint over the surface mounted cables to hide them.

Aren't vertical etc cable plinths the norm still?

Personally, I think if the wire is surface mounted (as in the picture) it

looks better unpainted. I don’t like the pipes painted either. 
 

Even if I wanted the wire and boxes painted, I would would still paint the walls first, install the electric and then paint over the wires. 
 

My next big project I’m going to invest in a wet “wall chaser” and run most of the conduit inside the walls....
