UK PM Johnson to impose new restrictions on low-skilled migrants post-Brexit: Telegraph

(Reuters) - Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson is preparing to impose new restrictions on low-skilled migrants moving to Britain on the first day after the Brexit transition period ends in December, the Telegraph reported.

Plans are being drawn up by Johnson's aides under which the government would bring forward its post-Brexit immigration shake-up by two years, thereby removing a temporary extension of the current rules until 2023 that had been demanded by business groups, the newspaper said bit.ly/2GfbcVf.

Home Secretary Priti Patel is expected to present the proposals to the Cabinet this week, as part of a paper on the UK’s future immigration system, the newspaper said.

The Thai economy, like the British economy is propped up by low skilled immigrants workers doing the jobs that locals refuse to do.

I wonder where (or who) Boris got that idea from. Maybe next he'll announce the building of a wall.

what’s that saying again? ‘If you are a local and you can’t get a job when someone who is new to the country, speaks the language less well and doesn’t have the connections can, it probably means you are probably useless...’

These blokes struggle with facts. I mean he probably didn’t know that thailand doles out nearly 2 million work permits for low skilled workers from neighboring countries.

The only skill needed? That they have a pulse.

Oh yes, and they get access to health care and one or two other social services like free schooling for their kids etc...

Like wot you did in Oz?

A good idea for those who legitimately apply; now what about all of those illegals and of course the hundreds of thousands that pour into the continent from all points?

When are you going to deport them?

Changing the subject now? Someone bought up Thailand’s system. I was addressing that.

Australia has free movement with NZ. We are a migrant nation with numbers of immigrants which would give the average brexiter a heart attack.

It must be difficult for you to admit that Australia is far more racist than the UK, so with this in mind I wouldn't worry too much about Boris Johnsons ideas for tackling immigration.

Yes you have a points based system that works well but when the UK wants to adopt it we are all anti immigrant racists.

You're just a Brit hater. Pure and simple.

Apparently preferring a doctor/nurse from India to an unskilled worker from Poland is racist. Despite the Pole being white and the Indian being BAME.

Yet you commend the Thais for sending home the unskilled farang. Its OK for the Thai and Aussies to limit unskilled immigrants but when the Brits do it we are racists. Laughable. Absolutely laughable. Thankfully your woke nonsense is getting a massive backlash in the UK and I am loving it.

Not sure what you’ve been reading. I was commenting on Thailand’s migrant labour system. Nothing about farangs being deported. I suggest you get some better glasses.

I am a little confused by this report by Reuters.

It is about the UK imposing on low skilled immigrants.

Why was it reported by Bhargav Acharya in Bengaluru; editing by Jonathan Oatis?

Jonathan Oatis OTOH is 3rd Desk Editor,

Reuters Americas Desk at Thomson Reuters
Greater New York City Area

Bengaluru is the new name for Bangalore which is in India.

So why did Reuters not use their London office which is well represented in London, with more than 4,000 employees based in the city from across multiple business units that include Legal, Reuters News Agency, Tax and Accounting, and Corporate.

It would have been cheaper and easier IMO to have local staff.

On the surface there are quite a few Australians opposing higher immigration, but the economic reality is somewhat different. The foundations of the Oz economy are "houses" and "holes",  the "houses" component requires constant stream of new buyers, either born there or imported, to keep the Ponzi scheme alive. Cut the immigration and watch the house values plummet, and the country plunges into economic depression.

Only countries with solid economic base like Japan or Germany can maintain and grow the economy without population increase and immigration. Neither Oz or UK have such economies, unless there are deep reforms the immigration will only increase...Ponzi schemes require ever increasing number of punters.

I'd go further and make it a legal obligation of the farmers and agencies doing the hiring to have to pay for every one of them that fails to leave on time, starting with £20,000 fines for each one and all legal costs for deportation and prison detention costs.

I agree with people having visas to come to the UK to pick veg, I have no issue with it and people coming, I do not think most Brexit people do, We just have issues with them not GOING HOME !

As soon as they hit the shores. Herd 'em up and move 'em out on the next banana boat. Don't even think about processing bogus applications for asylum, or any appeals at all while they are squatting in detention centers or council accommodation.

They are illegal criminals, just like those overstayers in Thailand.

So railway or airport janitor / WC cleaner is a low job that shall be reserved for only Brits?
So necrologist (the fellow who take all of us under 2 meter of soil in our last trip) its only for Brits?
So the horse, cow, chicken, pig, manure to be removed everyday from farms shall be reserved for only Brits?
So street cleaning and rubbish collecting its a low key job that shall be reserved only for Brits ?

Apologize, i can not stop to laugh , not for the kind of jobs, which are job, period, no discrimination!

The laugh its for imaging after 6 months if such law if will ever pass and see the light, the thousands of tons, of human and animal manure will be piling up in UK, as well the tens of thousand of relatives who has to dig by themselves the hole where to place the coffins, worst the street will be floated with everyday garbage.

You either come from a very remote and as yet undiscovered part of Wales, or more likely have never even been to the UK. There are not very many horses cows chickens or pigs in our streets for their manure to become a problem. The farmers tend to make good use of all of that material on their farms.
Where in the world would such conditions arise without low skilled immigrants - certainly not the UK?

I didn't know that Reuters published 'Advertorials'. It was obviously written with a particular audience in mind.

Was it next to an article promoting agencies specialising in visas for sub-continent doctors and techies jobs in the UK?

Couldn't agree more, I remember back in the early 2000 and befor, all the crops rotting away and people starving as there wasn't anyone to harvest the crops....
