Police hunting for taxi driver who cut in front of Japanese man in a Fortuner

Thai caption: Turning in front in the middle of the road

Stills from dash cam footage published by 77kaoded showed a green and yellow taxi cut in front of a Toyota Fortuner driven by a Japanese man in the Bang Phra area of Sri Racha yesterday.

Yohei Shuto, 35, did not appear to be injured but his car hit a barrier and was smashed in at the front.

The taxi driver fled the scene in the confusion.

Police said the driver had attempted to make a U-turn by turning across the Fortuner from the central lane. The Fortuner was in the far right lane and had to swerve to avoid a collision.

The accident happened near the Bang Phra market yesterday in the late afternoon.

Bangkok taxi drivers are the most honest in the whole world ....

If I get in a taxi and leave my rolex, my wallet with credit cards, my bag with 2,000,000 baht cash in it, if I forget it all and leave it on the back seat I don't worry in the slightest ....   I know it will all be returned in a couple of hours.

Another example of cameras not actually stopping something from happening.

Thats what i would call whoopsadaisy near miss here , how many others have perished since this event.

Pretty common driving practice here--especially among "professional" drivers: taxis, tuk-tuks, minivans.

the taxi driver's maneuver was <deleted> for sure, but who else is surprised? i wonder how fast the japanese driver was going. 500% awareness required on the road - 100% for yourself and 100% each for the vehicles in front, behind, and on both sides.

Swerving should never really be an option; brake straight, you may hit the offender which may teach them a lesson but depends how much grey matter is available for it to sink into !

The Rental company will be happy...

a japanese will appear richer than a farang (after the Taximan cannot be found in time for Claim settlement)

But possibly helping to find them so they don't get off scott-fee.

Taxis and the like are the worst ! That’s a common practice whilst on the wheel, luckily he wasn’t half asleep as most of them are swinging from right to left or just occupying two lanes, is just a standard practice in Thailand, so please stay always fully alert and particularly watch out for the blind spots since the two wheel taxi riders will surely ride across the lanes through the traffic or against the traffic as it often happens. There’s no traffic laws either regulations not to mention physical police to enforce any of it so again please do stay alert, roll your eyes and try to avoid the danger which can happen at any given moment on the roads !

Yes indeed. What is it about Fortuner owners ? They appear to want to own the road while kidding themselves they own a Range Rover, rather than the modified Toyota pick-up they are actually driving.

No doubt the Japanese gentleman uttered, R soul.

cameras, if working are good after the event has taken place !!!

If the Japanese guy's Fortuner wasn't in the right (hand) lane, this would not have happened.

See, foreigner in the wrong again.

All down to being aware of EVERYTHING going on around you while driving, not just the bit in front.

Yes,because most other drivers are only aware of the bit in front and even that is sporadic.

who did not use his meter.  Pattaya Plod have ten thousand suspects.

What if their was no dash cam footage, the foreigner would be paying for the damage, however it seems this Japanese individual may be ‘influential’ as the police are ‘hunting’ for the taxi driver who does not possess wing mirrors.
