I will start it off by saying it's a BIG YES from me.

 

Met my wife in 2006, in a "bar" of all places....lol, been very happily married for 13 years this coming April, never thought I could experience such a close and wonderful open relationship with a member of the opposite sex, which leads me to that word and another, the first one "sex", which is as good, if not better than we first met, the other word "bar" who said you can take the girl out of the bar, but not the bar out of the girl ?

 

If someone bumps into the guy that made that statement, pull him aside and slap him across the face twice for me, as his saying is totally wrong.

 

Am I the only guy out there happily married to an "x bar girl" or am I just making those who are unhappy sick to have to read this ?

 

I'm assuming this is going to bring in all sorts of replies...lol

I've been happily married twice, but apparently neither of my wives were.

Met my UK wife in a bar (had to wait 2 weeks to bang her), met my Thai wife in a bar (had to wait 2hrs to bang her).

I concur. Took me a few years to beat the bar out of the girl, but through sheer perseverance on my part she has turned out to be a loving spouse and a doting mother to our child.

Happily so since 1991.  She worked for a company we used to do business with, and was part of a group we regularly socialised with after work.  Things just progressed naturally from there.

I was happily married for six months, then the next six months was a complete nightmare. I had to pursue the last six months because i had a £100 bet that i would last a whole year. But that was many years ago in the uk. Now I've meet a wonderful woman in Thailand we get married next month. The only thing what annoys me is when she's giving me a blxw job she makes a he'll of a lot of noise ????

I married my wife 41 years ago in Loei.  There weren't that many paved roads back then and it's been a bumpy journey.  But now all she does is drive me crazy from constantly cooking, cleaning the house, decorating, pruning and raking leaves in the yard and all that stuff.  Dang.

Yeah, still very happy with my Thai wife, not a ex bar girl so so didn't have that dynamic going on.

But we've been together over 10 years, in Singapore where we met, Thailand and now back in the US. Actually just doing the math, it's closer to 20 years, dammit, it's 20 years in 2024

 

But I also have a very close relationship with my ex wife, close enough that we can all spend holidays together with our kids my ex wife and her current boyfriend, my American daughters and Thai son, plus the bf's son and daughter

 

I don't think that kind of figuring things out, is as rare as people would believe

Usually the guys who brag about anything on the internet.... especially the ones with thousands of posts leave a lot of details which can be open for interpretation. 

 

Like when I was doing tinder a few months ago some young strumpet asked me to bang her while her husband was watching. I was almost up for it until her husband started chatting with me saying to bring a "gift" or 2000 baht...up to me.

The way I see it is, if I didn't go down the hellish path of being with m X western wife for 12 years, I would never had met my Thai wife, you can't alter destiny, although I too would have preferred those first 12 years with the X western wife to have been with my Thai wife, but some of us have to suffer first, then reap the rewards later in life ????

There was a time when I would have thought such a combined relationship was bizzare. But over the years I have come to know people who have variations of circumstance such as yours. Nice outcome especially in  favor of children.

It's kinda nice actually. 

 

Even though I call them 'kids' they are 35, 28, 25 and nowadays they bring their girlfriends and boyfriends along. 

 

My youngest, my Thai son lived with my eldest American daughter in Boston while he was in college there, then followed her to Denver after graduation.

 

They shared a house until he moved in with his girlfriend.

 

One of the joys for my wife is that our son moved to Denver, which is driving distance. Now if one of our collective brood could reproduce and give us Grandkids, Momma, Dad, ex-wife would be very happy!

 

Life is complicated, I feel somewhat blessed that my two families sorta melded into one

No x-wives, no children, no blended families, no bumpy rides, just a loving, rewarding and interesting ride of more than 22 years.  She was 23 and I was 43 so I mentored her and introduced her to a much wider world, both in Thailand and in my home country.  Now at 45 and 65 the dynamic has changed, with her life being much more interesting than mine, and me enjoying taking a backseat.  She is my best friend, we still enjoy doing things together and we are still very much in love.

Yes, and I met her on Thai friendly of all places, 6 months before arriving in Thailand. We have now been together over 4 years, and were legally married last year. Still living in Thailand.

I spent two decades as a single guy in the nightlife of Bangkok and I have personally witnessed a vast number of failed attempts at domesticating ladies of the night.  To be fair it is not always entirely the girls fault.  Very few guys possess the required skillset to rehabilitate a dedicated prostitute, even when she is interested in changing.  Combine a clueless guy with a feckless, uncommitted working girl and you have a better chance of winning the lottery.

 

While I am very happy for the OP, not every guy can find happiness, even in less challenging relationships.  Generalizations can provide helpful guidelines for the uninitiated but in the end each relationship is a unique blend of two individuals.  Some couples succeed and some fail, and it is very hard to know in advance who the winners will be.
