January 20, 20206 yr Popular Post I am wondering what Thai biosecurity is going to do if there is an outbreak here, because any real action would impact those precious tourist figures.
January 20, 20206 yr Popular Post We get these scares once every few years, and they set up their special cameras on arrivals at the airport. I don't recall us ever having an epidemic here before, and do they really have one in China? I hear the source is Wuhan in China, place is freezing in winter and boiling hot in summer and horrible. Chinese seem to mix only with Chinese, one only has to watch out for being spat, coughed or sneezed on walking around Walking St or near to the entrances to the Malls they are herded into. If you end up in a hotel full of them you might starve to death before you get this. Edited January 20, 20206 yr by jacko45k

January 21, 20206 yr And Chinese people cough openly, with no attempt to cover their face. I would avoid the region until it is under control.

January 22, 20206 yr Trying to aim on only one Or two countries for tourist arrivals turns out to be a foolish approach.
January 22, 20206 yr Popular Post No. In a years time nobody you know will have died from it. Nobody in your locale will have died from it. You will have forgotten all about it and be worrying about "something else", happening to "other people", that will also not affect you or anybody you....etc...etc. Edited January 22, 20206 yr by Enoon

January 22, 20206 yr The Coronavirus is spread like "colds" and "flus" by coughing, sneezing, and general close contact. It's when any particular strain has a high "virulence" factor that makes infection a more serious issue. Most colds and flus are easily managed by the individuals own immune system. But... should a strain have a high virulence factor, disease and symptoms of the virus become more intolerable and widespread. Everyone should take precautions, especially when in closed/close contact with others that are presenting with symptoms (cough, sneezing, malaise, fatigue, aches, fever). Your best defense it to foster a strong immune system (through good health practices) and to employ barrier devices. An "N95" particulate filtration mask (aka hepa filtration), regular hand washings, sanitizers, basic hygiene, and general avoidance of others with symptoms. https://www.who.int/csr/don/05-january-2020-pneumonia-of-unkown-cause-china/en/
January 22, 20206 yr Could the "New China virus" effect Pattaya?? No. Chinese viruses get no work permit here. As soon as they show up they'll be surrounded by IOs in fancy BMWs and deported.

January 22, 20206 yr The Chinese government is doing very little to stop the virus from spreading to other countries. Even Chinese hospitals in Wuhan, the epicenter, are unable to detect the virus according to reports from the World Health Organization. A Chinese female had developed fever, chill, and muscle pain on 18 January while in Wuhan. She visited a local hospital in Wuhan and was diagnosed with a cold. On 19 January she flew to Korea and was detected with a fever (38.3 °C) upon arrival at the Incheon International Airport. She has the virus! The virus is proving to easily move human to human, even to primary care givers. The virus may also be mutating making it more difficult to detect and more deadly. It hasn't yet been defined as airborne. Don't expose yourself to potential sources. Direct contact with door handles, escalator handrails, elevator push buttons, fresh fruit and vegetables in markets are common locations for transmission. Most viruses can last up to 2 hours on a surface. Touch a contaminated surface and then touch an orifice on your body, and you'll be infected. This is a very serious matter, far more serious than is being reported in the press. Edited January 22, 20206 yr by Banana7

When you arrived in BKK airport they were checking people. I think we had to fill in a form with a few questions just before immigration.

January 22, 20206 yr I think the answer depends in part of the answer to the question -- can the Wuhan virus be spread by bodily fluids other than droplets from coughing and sneezing.....
January 22, 20206 yr Popular Post On a serious note, here's the latest from tonight's press conference in China: 473 people have been detected with the virus in 13 provinces. Death toll stands at 9 all in Hubei, all either elderly or with other pre-existing conditions including liver disease in one case, and multiple organ damage in another. They are almost sure that the root cause is down to illegal wild animals sold in the South China Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan. Treatment will be covered by national health insurance which means no-one will have to pay the hospital. Infections have been detected in Thailand, Japan, S Korea, USA and Taiwan. On a personal note, a friend in Philippines is telling me that they have found a suspected case there. This is not official. This was reported an hour ago.

The information needed is the incubation period. Something that is either not known at this stage, or not disclosed by authorities. Hosts carrying the virus could get on a plane, and within hours, infect a new city, in a new country.
