Pattaya shots fired: War on drugs claims another innocent life as police sting goes wrong

A completely innocent member of the public is dead and two others were seriously injured after a drug sting conducted by the Bang Lamung police ended in disaster.

The police had tried to arrest 40 year old drug dealer Thanongsak or "Kwang" who had arrived at the sting with his wife Supatra.

But the dealer got wise and took off alone in his Mitsubishi Triton truck and was pursued through Pattaya by gun toting police.

They shot out one of his back tires causing him to lose control near a clinic in the Moo 8 area of the city.

Careening into cars and motorcycles the Triton ended up smashed into a shop front and a motorcycle with sidecar used for selling meatballs.

Thanongsak then fled on foot and was arrested along with 300 grams of drugs worth 500,000 baht.

Dead at the scene was 66 year old motorcycle rider Prasert. His male relative riding pillion was injured.

Further down the road another innocent motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a broken leg, reported Siam Chon News.

Nong Prue police were on the scene surveying the devastation as a large crowd gathered following the culmination of the chase around 7 pm yesterday evening.

People who use drugs regardless of the reason and the doctors and pharmacists are scum?You must feel vastly superior to the rest us to make such a bold claim.I hope you can withstand the karma headed your way Steven and I hope you never have recourse to resort to such scummy behavior to alleviate any ailments which you may suffer.You obviously condone the loss of life as collateral damage in the dubious war on drugs.Sometimes I wonder just who could be so callous.

Condolences to the family of the deceased.  He was just trying to scratch out a living, and got caught up in the carnage.

Just goes to show, you never know about tomorrow.

I wonder if the arrest of the this drugdealer warrants the dead of the bystanders. I mean this could have been handled far better by the police. I doubt they officers will get any punishment.

The professionals at work again. These people should not be allowed to have guns.

Shows how arbitrary the laws are. Thankfully slowly they are moving towards free pot use. And yes I am a druggo in countries where its allowed.

I'm not advocating for or against recreational drugs...

But the reality is... alcohol IS a drug, just happens to be a legal one... But one nonetheless that causes or contributes to vast numbers of deaths and injuries every year.

BTW, AFAIK, in most "professional" police forces I'm aware of, it's not policy to shoot at/out the car tires of fleeing suspects in a city/urban setting with lots of innocent bystanders around.

Pot head? Is that why it is being prescribed by Doctors for ailments?

I suspect a lot of places, including Thailand, will end up eventually in a place where marijuana is treated a lot like alcohol, regulated and sold legally to adults...as drugs.

Shooting out the tires of a moving motor vehicle?  With innocent by-standards around waiting to be hit by the ricochet or crashed vehicle.   So they were filming a live-action cartoon or movie, correct?

Wow....

Sorry my friend, but you should really educate yourself before embarrassing yourself with such ridiculous statements, without any kind of knowledge at all.

In that case you are labelling the Thai government and every other authority who allows Cannabis to be used for medicinal purpose, as scum.

Somehow you think that you know better than they of the benefits?

We have genuine sufferers here who seek out clinics in order to obtain the active ingredient, because it helps with their symptoms. They have tried the prescribed 'medicines', which do not work. I don't need to name the member here. Will you call him scum?

Beer? What a disgusting drink. For what purpose? Of course the alcoholic content, in order to dull your senses....or will you claim to drink non-alcoholic beer...

The hypocrisy....and lack of intelligence is astounding.

Where is alcohol sold as a drug?

I have no idea what you're on about.

Alcohol is a drug. Marijuana is a drug. Doesn't matter what they're "sold as."

Alcohol, sometimes referred to by the chemical name ethanol, is a psychoactive drug that is the active ingredient in drinks such as beer, wine, and distilled spirits (hard liquor).[13]

The fact that they're derived differently doesn't change the fact they're both drugs. And I wasn't expressing any opinion on the merits of one vs the other.

geeze ....

I am talking about a drug pusher, addict, heroin, pot head, ice taker whatever ...

I'm not talking about someone taking a drug because it has been prescribed to them.

I'm talking about druggies, addicts etc ...

But beer (alcohol is a drug) a harddrug even classified by all the drug organisations. So you are wrong.

Its so hard for the older generation that grew up with alcohol so see it as a drug while all the experts classify it as one. Then they demonize the far lesser pot.

"It is intriguing to note that the two legal drugs assessed -- alcohol and tobacco -- score in the upper segment of the ranking scale, indicating that legal drugs cause at least as much harm as do illegal substances," van Amsterdam and van den Brink write.

Just wondering,Steven,if you have the gonads to say this to the faces of these people you label as scum without knowing them or the contributions these potheads make to society?

Steven100 and a few others on this forum are Thai or worse , farang who are more Thai than the Thai themselves;
everything that happens in this country is good;
everything that happens outside the borders of Thailand is bad

If we, farang, give concrete solutions to a problem inside Thailand, the invariable answer is:
falang no undelstand ..
or

if you are not happy get out of this country

For them it is white or black, the intermediate colors do not exist;
more manicheen than a Thai? it seems to me that it is impossible.

Steven100, you will have to look up the definition of manicheen in your dictionary
