We are in very safe hands. After all the health minister Anuthin was formerly an engineer, and has worked in many private companies including the position of Managing Director of Sino-Thai Engineering

If these numties just listen to the news they would know there are at least 10 Chinese Cities on lock-down.  Again, incompetant decisions by those who have their priorities totally wrong!

"We will perform a virus scan if the Chinese government announces to watch out for other cities apart from Wuhan and Guangzhou," the General Manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Suthirawat Suwannawat, told reporters.

You can not make this up!!!!

Ok lets just frickin wait....oh wait the whole countries infected, and its spreading.  Lets be a little pro-active Thailand.  Wait Thainess again...….

Scared China might put them on a tourism blacklist?

Once again the Thai Government is taking orders from their Chinese Masters. Colonization is almost fully complete - congrats Prayut for allowing Thailand to finally be under foreign control.

Idiots !  See change when some high governmental ministers wife husband or child dies from it then serious quick change usually happens until then enjoy the ride of Russian Roulette like when going out on the roads or visiting badly build buildings and nightclubs

Idiots !

If you read the article further it states that the Thai authorities are awaiting information in relation to which additional cities from which passengers affected by the virus may be traveling and presumably need to be screened.

Don't let the facts spoil your Sunday Thai bashing though.

There are a number of links been posted elsewhere, after watching them last night, this is a very serious situation that needs to be controlled immediately. Yes people dropping in the street, on buses, in hospital corridors....police forcing people into ambulances...one shows a hospital with at least 10 people on a hospital floor totally covered meaning they are probably already dead.

Calm down there Pilgrim.

In the US alone, there are between 12,000 to 61,000 influenza deaths annually, in the past 10 years.

Source: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html

How many flu deaths happen in your Old Country each year?  ????

Be sure to compare your country with America, adjusting for population.

You're being hysterical for no rational reason.

Call in the White Helmets.

People are dropping left , right and center but the superior brains are waiting for China to tell them what to do.

The Chinese government is already taking strict measures to slow the spread of the virus, shutting down tourist areas and restricting travel (see below).

What's the Thai government doing as thousands of Chinese tourists flood in to celebrate the Lunar New Year?

Signs in arrival gates telling people to wash their hands?

"Chinese tourism continues to be affected by the spread of the virus. All domestic and foreign tour group operations are to be suspended from Monday. The move follows the closure of Shanghai’s Disneyland, and all tourist sites in the popular Sanya city."

https://www.theguardian.com/science/live/2020/jan/25/coronavirus-china-death-tolls-rises-to-41-as-france-confirms-three-cases

A good thing the Health minister is listening to Chinese officials who are the most informed which Chinese cities should be checked.

To suggest that Thailand should screen all Chinese tourists is absurd. China is an immense big country, it doesnt make sense to screen ppl who live thousands miles away from infected cities.

There are worldwide, including the usa, ppl infected with this new virus, so i guess  Thailand also must screen everybody coming from the usa.

As usual, ppl bitch and trash Thailand without a sense of logic. The usual "all Thais are stupid and incomptetent" kinda <deleted>.

So in essence you agree with the limited screenings...….really now.  Have you ever looked at where the people from Wuhan travelled to when they were told there would be a lockdown of their city 12 hours before it was implemented.  Have you not looked into how many more cities are on Lockdown, and just how far this is starting to spread.  Yes, lets just wait, maybe we can be like an ostrich and stick our head in the sand and when we come back up it will be gone......WOW, you are in Denial...….

When was the last time you flew through South Korea.  They have monitoring stations for all incoming passengers.  Do you just think that they screen only some people.  Go ahead and tell me more of why not everyone should be screened.  Time to be pro-active and not re-active....

I am wondering if the virus can survive on articles of infected people like purses, suitcases, and

even clothing?  Just curious..

Unknown, at this time.  In general, viruses survive longer on hard nonporous surfaces

https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/infections/how-long-do-bacteria-and-viruses-live-outside-the-body/

But it can last anywhere from 5 to 28 days at 20C.

Which is rather cool for Thailand.

I doubt it could survive very long out in the sunshine.

Inactivation was more rapid at 20°C than at 4°C at all humidity levels; the viruses persisted for 5 to 28 days.

Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport said it had begun temperature scans on passengers arriving from Guangzhou and Wuhan, but not all Chinese cities. Flights from Wuhan have been cancelled because it is under quarantine.

Does this mean Wuhan is cut off by road & rail too?

It must be wonderful to feel so superior!

Don't let's spoil Sunday where superiority overshadows such qualities as:-

Leading by example

Taking simple and immediate action, as of last Thursday, like screening everyone entering or leaving the country

Pro-activity

Forward Planning

Informing the public about these fast moving events

Moving quickly to help dispel panic and uncertainty.

You know - those sort of things that you are referring to as "Thai bashing"

The Prayuth administration. Always count on them to consider the public good above all else, to always select talent based on experience and merit, and to always do the right thing by their people.

Isn't that a bit like the US?

Yes.  25 million people are being isolated in their cities.

Can you imagine how much whining and moaning would happen if YOUR government did this back in YOUR Old Country? ????

  • Popular Post

According to the data gathered during the SARS epidemic, scanning people as they arrive at airports isn't a particularly effective practice. It's perfectly possible for people in the early stages of the disease to be asymptomatic and so scanning them doesn't do much good.

Quote

"It is generally considered that entry screening offers little benefit, while requiring considerable resources," WHO officials said in a Jan. 10 release.

"If the goal is to identify new cases of an emerging disease like the novel coronavirus, then airport screenings have been historically poor methods to identify new cases based off of studies".

A report into airport screening in Canada during the SARS outbreak in 2003 notes that not a single case was detected at airports, even though 43 Canadians eventually died of the disease.

That's because the Chinese leadership are terrified of the civil unrest if they allowed free movement

I was wondering how many people are considering the same to cancel their bookings? and people just give it a miss and not travel

I cancelled my trip to Thailand because too many Chinese and they are the ones carrying the so i would rather live than go there and die

Do they have same WHO banner up at airport in Chinese? Seems like logical thing to do......

Citing Spanish flu epidemic of 1919.... too much has changed: 1.8 billion people vs 7.8 billion now. Urban population now 56% (much better for epidemics, ya think?)

Yup.  I already posted the link that claimed Coronavirus is usually afebrile.

a·fe·brile. Without fever, denoting apyrexia; having a normal body temperature. Synonym(s): apyretic, apyrexial.
