Hello

I was looking on the thai emmbassy webpage (Sweden) for a visa for mother and saw this:

"Tourist Visa : Single / Double Entry

( only applicable for 38 countries & 2 special regions : Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brunei, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malasia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, the Phillppines, Portugal, Gatar, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, USA, UK, Laos, Vietnam, Hongkong, Macau )

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CAN NOT COMBINE VISA ISSUED BY THE ROYAL THAI EMBASSY WITH - 30 DAYS WITHOUT VISA - UPON YOUR ARRIVAL"

What does it actully mean? When I read post here I see people on touristvisas that do single visaruns. Is it not possible anymore?

Further more, if you leave the Kingdom before the last stamped day on your departure card then you cant possibly be overstaying, am I correct? Why then are they counting days when you leave the county as some here have been reporting?

Believe they are saying that if you obtain a tourist visa immigration is not required to provide a 30 day entry without visa (to use it later).

I have not seen anyone talking about visa days being counted on departure except as a help to those that might not be able to return if they depart because of the 90 day rule.

Ahhh

I was hoping that you would reply. Your replies is clear and always to be trusted. Now I understand better.

They actully mean that my mother can´t use 30 days without visa after the TR expires. She have to do a extension at immigration or do a visa run.

I see it more clearly now.The counting on departure is just to be able to inform the tourist that he or she cant return or get fewer days upon the re-entry, more as a service.

I am not an epert on these things thats why I easily get confused. In my dear old Sweden the government always seem to have specialgroups for everything that look into matters before things are decided. They can actully talk and make research for years before they even build a street. I am under the impression that the government here sometimes do things by "trial and error". They implement rules,if it works, fine. If it not works, then they make a new rules...thats the main reson why I had to ask.

Once again, thanks for your reply.

How long does dear old mother want to stay in the Kingdom Hawkup ?

A Single or double TR will cover her stay easily. She will only be a "regular tourist" not a "visarunner". I was just confused about all the additional info on the page. :o

i noticed on the new forms when they came out that it forced you to use the visa.

i always thought that sucks.... what if you get a double outside, want to spend two weeks in thailand and go to lao/cambo??? i actually did that last year. friend from dubai wtd me to take him to cambodia.

that would have sucked up us30 + mailing costs and i would have lost 30 days in thailand. but theyre not counting, but they are ...not uh... are....uh... why?! bother...

yeah your mum can get a double no worries!
