The only goal posts that have been changed were the tactics used by The Democrats to present the impeachment charges to the Senate, but I doubt that is what you are referring to.

I have no politics in this one way or the other. I have watched as much as an outsider individual can via the net as possible...yep many hours. It seems to me that the Dems should have proved their case, witnesses and all, within the House proceedings, which in the final Q & A session the Dems said that procedural rules were the responsibility of the House and would determine such procedures, for the House, that they considered appropriate. So this admits the Dems to do all the work for the impeachment and finally arriving at a vote in yes/no on impeachment. But it seems to me that they rushed it leaving loop holes which the Reps could take advantage of and, in my view, is what happened. There were many times that the Dems were repeating themselves over and over which is a clear sign that they trying to form their case in the Senate as it went on. Their case should have been complete before taking it to the Senate.

Do you not understand that the House had the opportunity to compel all the testimony during the impeachment?

 

It’s not because Trump blocked then from testifying, he can block them from testifying in the Senate as well.

Zakaria did not know about the planned announcement before Zelinsky canceled his appearance.  So?

So CNN was trying to schedule interview (but never did) and they claim they never got the interview because the Times believes he was going to announce the Biden investigation.
 

So why did the House not compel the witnesses to testify during the impeachment?

For those who do not understand the basics of Law and how the Consitution framed Impeachment and the subsequent rules and conventions pout in place - go do some research - try Wikipeadia

 

My quick summary of the current 'arrangements'. The House conducts the investigations. The House views the results of the investigation and votes on yes/no.  If Yes the House sends the case to the Senate.  The Senate conducts a trial based on the case presented by the House. The Senate votes whether guilty or not guilty.  Think of it this way. The Police investigate. The Prosecution conducts the trial based on the Police investigations.

 

Because there are no set rules and regulations about how the House can conduct its investigations, in fact they can set their own rules and regluations, the process followed by the Dems is a complete breakaway from the last impeachment investigation rules and regluations followed (Clinton). 

 

The Police can always continue their investigations after a Trial, but the prosecutor cannot and does not investigate anything while conducting the trial other than what is directly related to the case prepared by the Police.

 

The Dems knbew this and that is why they deliberately controlled/blocked the GOP participation in their investigations. The Dems did not investigate anything about the corruption of Biden et al, becausae they didnt want that in the trial. 

 

By any impartial measure the Dems have conducted a partisan and corrupted investigation - and just like Nancy handing out gold pens, it is all a political farce. They were locked into this from 2016 onwards. They hate Trump because he is tearing apart the Obama disaster and pulling back all their progressive globalist policies and changes - just like he said he would.  He was supposed to have colluded with Russia - but that fake story and the illegal investigations failed - so they had to find another reason to start impeachment - which of course they found with the aid of partisan hacks and disgruntled swapers.
