Beyonce and Jay-Z were spotted sitting throughout the National Anthem at the Super Bowl - a big no-no in America.

The power couple were at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami with their daughter Blue Ivy, eight, as the San Francisco 49ers took on the Kansas City Chiefs.

In a video posted by TMZ, the Carters can be seen sitting down as Demi Lovato belts out their nation's anthem.

The Flag Code states that everyone present when the National Anthem is being sung should stand and face the flag, if there is one.

  • Not a joke in my opinion. It is the greatest country in the world when it comes to economic opportunity. There is no pathway to freedom better than wealth. Whine about the social justice warrior cause

  • Trump this, Trump that. Blah blah blah. Change the record.

  • they see themselves as royalty, they should show more gratitude to the nation that has given them everything... anyway, they and their supporters are a lost cause.

The flag’s been over molested by Trump. Stained and soiled goods.

Agreed the Trumpers will be along to froth and condemn soon whilst polishing their Glocks and talking about the Constitution. Go Girl Go ! It's not a free country if you can't disrespect the flag. At one time these impertinent upstarts had the temerity to disrespect the King whilst keeping Beyonce and Jay Z's ancestors in chains.

God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh.

Whine about the social justice warrior causes all you want but Trump has done a good job. These ungrateful losers Jay Z and Bouncy should leave.

They should have stood especially as they're both U.S. citizens. This isn't a political issue. There seems to be some kind of sick innuendo here that democrats or 45 opponents don't stand for the national anthem. That only right wingers or what passes for right wingers these days, cult of personality followers, own patriotism. That's totally wrong.

I don't know why they didn't stand. I can only guess. My guess is that being rich celebs they think their s--t doesn't stink and they aren't subject to expectations of normal citizens.

Of course they and anyone has the legal right to not stand. Heck, they can even burn the flag if they want.

Up to them  if people don't like them don't buy the records and boycott the concerts. Or go there and boo them. Free means free. If Thailand was free there is a lot of stuff I wouldn't do under duress and would most probably involve a middle finger. But it's not so I stand ,sullenly and inwardly cursing.

Well, I think it's polite for foreigners to follow the local public customs when abroad. I imagine pretty much all foreign citizens if at a U.S. sporting event would also stand just not to stick out but I hope for their sake they're not putting their hand to their hearts because that would really be too much.

Living abroad, I haven't been to a U.S. sporting event in a very long time. But when I used to go, I felt goose bumps during the anthem and I'm not embarrassed to say that.

There is no reason to bring racist innuendo into this.

I am guessing your country is ?   a jealous little joke?

Trump or no Trump what's he got to do with this ?

These two musicians BEyoncé et JayZ have plainly displayed a despicable and hateful attitude and have obviously been spoilt by the millions of suckers who treat them as gods.

In fact the radio stations and music clubs should ban their music to give these 2 rascals a lesson of respect and humility towards a national emblem.....no matter from which country.

When a national anthem plays, like that country or not, by respect you stand up if it's part of the show or protocol. And the major brands who have named them as ambassadors to their brands should plainly cancel the multi million dollar deals.

I think you're really overreacting!

but they could be appearing to be 'happy' to 'sit to attention'

image.jpeg.4ecc7b4fc831912934503515519644a8.jpeg which also works, under the flag...

This is good for goose bumps too.

It does not really bother me.  I was raised Joe Boy scout, Eagle scout, ex Air Force, etc. and for decades did all the "customs".   But I don't see the need to stand just because somebody, a few decades ago thought it would be a good custom to follow.  Once I left the military, there are not many things I stand up for unless I have a great personal reason, maybe some exceptional or noteworthy person.  Of course a Judge when I am in a court room or on jury duty.  I personally disagree with that, but I am not willing to get handed a contempt charge.  I think it is ego to expect somebody to stand for them.

As for the history of standing and the national anthem being played, looks like it started in 1918 at a world series game.  WW 1 veterans being honored and so forth.  A fine idea.  But I don't see the need and I object to peer pressure.  While rare, peer pressure and threats can lead to things.  Not trying to compare this to Nazi Germany or any other country that has enforced behavior and customs, but I do.

A few years ago I was at Balboa Park sitting down and watching a cultural festival at the chinese pavilion house international cottage.  They opened with the national anthem and as an experiment and because I was tired I did not stand.  I noticed a few other people looking around that were near me, and two families with kids also did not stand.  No doubt there were many foreigners and tourists there and no doubt some of them had little idea why people were standing or what the song was.

Of course in Thailand when at the movies I stand up at the beginning, even though I disagree with such "forced" behavior.  But again, not a big deal and certainly not worth getting in trouble for.  The custom and "rules" were known, and if one didn't like it, one shouldn't go there.

They do not stand for the same reason that Colin K doesn't. They have said so in the past.
