Hi all!

I am about to start collecting my pension and having it sent to me in Chiang Mai and want to use Transferwise to do it with Bangkok Bank.  I am wondering about the FET form that Transfewise has told me that Bangkok Bank will give me to prove the funds came from out of the country.  The branch of Bangkok Bank I went into did not have a clue about it.  I was wondering if anyone here is doing this in Chiang Mai what branch they are using?  I think if I go where they are already doing it for others it will make my day that much easier.

Thanks in advance for any help here!

I think you mean FET Foreign Exchange Transfer form, its given by the third party bank, not BKK bank. However, I would suggest your call the Bangkok help line, if they know about it then go to the branch and call the helpline while your with them, BKK bank can then trace the payment and see which third bank was used, my local bank then organised the form with the third party bank. Good luck

Transferwise send you an email with a link to the pdf doc which shows its source and details. When using Bangkok Bank select reason "for long term living". Send a smaller test amount to start with so you can see it working.

It's shown on your Bangkok Bank statement as International

Every time you make a transfer via T/W a transaction receipt is produced which you can download from your account in PDF form. I and several others have used this receipt to prove, to the satisfaction of Thai Imm, that the deposit is indeed a foreign remittance.

A basic A-Z guide:

For the first transfer, select the amount you want to send, put the Thai bank account details of the Thai bank you intend using in the ‘send to section’ then Phone Transferwise to ask them to ‘tag’ this bank account as your preferred transfer route (this is just a one off request, you won’t need to phone them again). Next, select the reason for your transfer in the drop down box as ‘funds for long term stay in Thailand’. Finally, choose your payment method (eg; bank transfer) and make the payment to them.

For all future transfers:

1.      Select the amount you want to send

2.      Choose the Thai bank you want transfer the money to (it’s already showing on the screen

3.      Select the funds for long term stay in Thailand as the reason for the transfer

4.      Choose your payment method and make the payment

It’s that simple.

You will receive an email with 1-2 minutes of making a payment to confirm they have received your payment and a second email to confirm when your transfer has arrived at your Thai bank. There’s an option to download a PDF containing full details of the transfer, for your records, in the second email.

You don’t need to do anything at the Bangkok bank, your Transfer will automatically be recorded as ‘FTT’ in your account. Bangkok bank always update the accounts on a daily basis at 2:00pm.
