One third of Thailand's infected have recovered and gone home. They don't mention that though. It doesn't sell clicks. If, and it is a very big if, you believe the stats. I have just been contacted by someone from a Thai Govt. dept. asking what our Coronavirus policy is. There's genuine panic at the moment as the inept and inadequates in uniform struggle to get a handle on the crisis. Lucky for them I am proactive rather than reactive and have already had our HSE brief to all the staff and introduce preventative measures a week ago. 5

Ventenio
It's all fun and games and relatively cheap living until you get sick. Then it's the absolute worst of the worst of the worst. Let me remind myself what I deal with, and still stay (however, I moved out of CM)..... visa, pollution, slight increase in prices, strong baht, death virus, traffic, and even sometimes the pesky ant because my building was built like...oh, anyhow. Can I leave and increase my chances to live? of course. but what do I do? I decide to move to a different city in Thailand, next month. ah, i'm doing something 1

Tropicalevo
Hmm strange statistic “Hotels with 700-800 rooms which would normally be full at this time of year now have zero bookings”, I am currently staying at a 130 plus rooms, four star hotel on KPN. One third full when I arrived a couple of days ago and totally full today. Maybe people just do not like hotels with 700 - 800 rooms? I certainly would never stay in one that large.

I know some offices are not as strict but mine (Ubon) definitely is. 9

Problems have been mounting for some time, with many staying away from Thailand for a number of reasons, mostly of a home grown nature. Strength of the Baht, greed, fraud, danger etc. And as most of the eggs had been put into one basket, the super storm for tourism has now arrived. This post is spot on.......tourism was way down this year long before the Chinese virus appeared ,,,October ,November and December was terrible occupancy rates for hotels............the Thai way now with the virus they have an excuse why it’s down and someone else to blame apart from themselves. 5

That is going to be a second layer factor very quickly. Those that provided for those that catered to tourism are part of the whole picture. This is not the same as a natural disaster such as a tsunami because in that scenario demand for daily services were still in demand. It is very likely thefts and violence will increase.

Plus where is the value in inflating the figures? Now that Japan and Singapore have outstripped Thailand, are these people congratulating the Thai Government for their containment policy and the success in treating the virus patients? If you add up all the people like us not spending it means disaster on a grand scale up and down the country.
