updownbetween
From time to time I use valium (aka diazepam, a prescribed medicine from my doctor) especially when flying. Will it be a problem in the airport? It seems like Thailand is pretty hard on drugs, and I do not want to run into trouble.
tifino
there are some Ebmbassies around the world; that have gone to a lot of trouble, to identify what will be a problem: one such an example: http://www.thaiconsulatevancouver.ca/consulate/documents/consular-service/medication.pdf
updownbetween
Seems like I need a certificate from my doctor, but no need to declare at the Customs, nor do I need a permit. If I understand it correctly.
Popular Post Sheryl
It needs to be in a clearly labelled prescription bottle. A letter from your doctor also not bad idea. No need for permit or to declare, that is only for narcotics not pyschotropics. That is for Thailand. But you also need to consider any airports you may fly through/connect at especially if in the Gulf, some of them have very strict rules. 2

Going to fly through Qatar, but will not leave the airport, only as a connection flight.
VBF
If Doha is like Dubai, you still go through Security at the connection. I just flew LGW-BKK via Dubai. I am carrying 2 months of heart meds for my trip - all are in labelled boxes and I have printouts of my NHS prescription and doctor's letter- just in case of being asked - I wasn't. Best check rules for Qatar. In some Gulf airports people have had issues even connecting flights. 1

You will still have to clear transit security screening in Qatar, just as rigorous as primary security screening. I would suggest calling your airline and ask specifically about your situation and get the reply in writing.
EbhB
They're quite sloppy at Doha... But sure, need to get through there! Just arrived back in Bangkok, not taking any classified drugs - but this time I got a short letter from my physician stating a couple of diagnosises I have + the medication, which includes both benzos and kodein at occasions. Next step for me will be to show immigration that letter when EXITING, then inquiring a bit about what I'd need to take in a very small dose of these things. Will also keep building a relationship with a local doctor that has been a good helper, maybe he could also write a letter or something... Its getting insane in the West as well when it comes to these classes of drugs, but of course there is a reason for that. For me, and others that use it VERY infrequently its of course a drag...

You are right, but I don't understand why that should be a problem, I mean, if only connecting to another flight, the medicine will not find it's way out on the streets. 46 minutes ago, dddave said: You will still have to clear transit security screening in Qatar, just as rigorous as primary security screening. Seems a little overkill to have to go through security when transit only. >< *sigh* 27 minutes ago, EbhB said: They're quite sloppy at Doha... But sure, need to get through there! I also use it very infrequently, and it sure is a drag! Why would you show them a letter when exiting? Is it mandatory that you declare your medicine when exiting? Why not only show them if you are asked?

You do not declare anything regarding medication: 1- to Immigration - nothing remotely to do with them 2- on exiting a country. If required you may do so on entry -- to customs not immigration. bkk6060
Geez, paranoid. I would bet if you have personal use explaining for sleeping on plane there will be absolutely no issues. I have never heard of anyone, who otherwise had their act together and all legal entry documents, being harassed or arrested for having personal use medications even without a certificate or Doctors note. But up to you if you want to go thru the trouble then go for it. I have brought them in many many times all over the world for 20 years never worry or had an issue. For me personally, I do like to minimize the risk of running into trouble, so I think it is good to hear other peoples opinion and experiences. It is good to hear your experience as well

Which is why I suggested to HAVE documentation but only show it IF ASKED.
