As they are allowed to transit through the country, why not let them dock here in the first place?

Liability.  They don't want to get stuck with the whole shebang in case they all come down with it.  And perhaps they can save a bit of face since they dumped the problem on Cambodia.

Anutin missed a golden opportunity to create some much needed positive PR for his nation. Instead he denied the ship, knowing they would transit through Thailand anyway.

Actually, quite clever when you think about it - send potential infected to Cambodia and if sick they can be praised by the Thai public whilst giving the problem and tourist problems to Cambodia AND/OR publicise in a weeks time that they flew out 2000 of world citizens off of the boat (leaving out they rejected them first) to return them safely home

Covid 19 shows Cambodia as a small country with a big heart

Being aware of the risks, Cambodia has very taken bold, decisive steps to assist those in need to deal with common global threats such as the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COID-19). ...

Twenty passengers who were suspected of being infected by COID-19 were transported via helicopter to Pasteur institute in Phnom Penh for testing. All of them were COID-19 negative.

I would be doubtful concerning the capability of Cambodia to test this people within that short time.

Thanks Cambodia for displaying humanity.  I know where my next vacation will be and am looking forward to it.

Before you go, read what happened to Sihanoukville. It is not a cambodian city anymore. It is an over priced chinese place now with near 80 casinos. The capital Phnom Penh has been touched too. Too late for Cambodia.

This man's incompetence knows no bounds. In a week he insults and makes threats against western people in a public 2 year old style tantrum which reverberated around the world very negatively for Thailand then personally overrides permission to doc to a cruise ship full of tourists the country is desperate for only to land in another country which now receives all the good will of its actions for the said tourist some of whome will travel by road through Thailand to fly out of Thailand anyway. The man is a closit or a walking cluster F!!k. What will next week bring for him and Thailand?
